I like to think that I'm pretty conscientious about what I choose to spend my money on, but I'm also not someone who will deprive myself of every little thing. My birthday is still two weeks away, but this weekend when I was out shopping with a girlfriend I bought myself an early birthday gift. It was something I hadn't planned on buying but could afford, and I would have found something else in its place if I hadn't come across this particular item. Because I'm usually a practical spender, buying something out-of-the ordinary for my birthday feels special.

Killah
i don't need to buy myself a present. if i see something i really, really want, and we can afford it at the time, we get it. for me, its about letting my kids decorate my cake and the homemade cards.
1I bought myself a pair of shoes this year, since half of my supposed friends forgot about my birthday, or some just choose to stand me up to get a tattoo. I hate my birthday. And it's today. It was nice to start because it was sunny, but mostly, its not been at all pleasant. I mean I get dumped by the guy I was dating and now he wants to come to my party to see how many people stand me up, and well, they're all coming up with excuses. My personal life sucks.
Sorry, but I had to get that out there before I cry.
For those of you that have good friends, hang on to them. You're lucky...don't let petty sh*t get between you and them.
2I have a December b-day...so usually I am struggling to think of enough things for my family to buy me between the 2 holidays - so I tell myself to have some restraint that time of year other than buying a new fun shirt to wear out on my bday.
But I figure everything else I buy myself throughout the year makes up for not buying myself a birthday present.
3Oh for sure!!
Especially if something speaks to you, you have to get it!!
4i kinda budget a gift for myself the same way i budget for a gift for my parents.
5If there's something that I want and it's pretty big, I'll treat myself to it like a birthday present.
6For my 21st birthday I bought myself a trip to NYC
but I usually don't buy myself
anything for my birthday -- I just get to dictate how I want to spend the day and with whom and that's usually enough!
7If I see something I like and the price is within reason, I usually just buy it...I don't need a special occasion to do it!
8I don't usually because I will usually buy it for myself if its priced within reason, but I figure for my big 3-0 I should treat myself to something not too extravagant, but nice to enjoy.
9Sure, I have no problems buying myself a birthday gift with my money. It's my money. I can spend it any way I want to, and I see no better reason than treating myself on my birthday. After all, I treat other people on THEIR birthday. I think I should receive the same from myself!
10I treat myself pretty regularly, but on my birthday I go for that one thing I've been coveting that I wouldn't normally buy for myself.
11My dad always goes all out on birthdays and buys me the newest cool gadget or something big, so I feel spoiled enough
I've never even thought of getting myself a birthday gift...it's a nice idea, though.
12My birthday is when I always buy something I want that I really have no reason to buy besides just wanting it. So this year I bought myself a laptop (since I get my tax return around the same time). Its usually when I get my tech gear.
13My birthday is 11 days away!!
14my bday was sunday and i bought myself...nothing. i just got paid today!
15I did last year because my birthday was on Thanksgiving and no one gave me a present, or really even said "Happy Birthday". At the time, I was up to my elbows cooking Thanksgiving dinner for seven people and didn't mind, but the next weekend I went and got myself a present and a nice bottle of wine.
16I don't really get birthday presents, so I buy myself presents. It's sort of sad, but...Oh, well! At least I make up for it!
17I usually buy myself a gift too; it's a nice treat and I know I will enjoy/use it.
18Of course! Every year! LOL It's usually a HOT pair of shoes or a Fabulous bag.
19no, I don't.
20I will get myself a birthday outfit usually for my party, but that's about it
i buy myself presents weekly...i never hold back when i shop, so i don't need to treat myself on my birthday or any other special day
21i do typically by myself something for my birthday. i think that it's in part due to the fact that i don't like asking for the more expensive things from my boyfriend or my mom, so i'll splurge and justify it with the b-day thing.
22I always buy myself something special on my birthday. I deserve it
23Not really, Just b/c it is my birthday won't make me spend money that I don't have. Plus my birthday is in the beginning of January and follows Christmas, as well as 5 months of family birthdays before mine, plus I am a twin and have to buy her a present too, so I am usually pretty financially strapped by my birthday.
24i usually buy myself something to wear to go out for my birthday- so that counts i guess!
25Right now since the economy sucks and we would rather but fun things for our daughter, when my husband or my birthday comes around we use the event as an excuse to buy something practical. Last year I got a camera.
26I closed on my house the week after my 23rd birthday. I thought of it as a gift for myself.
27If I really want something for myself I usually buy it.
I don't use my birthday as an excuse.
28I'm w/popgoestheworld. Birthdays don't mean much to me, and I buy myself (and others) things when I find stuff that would be great for them/me. I guess having a birthday 2 days after Christmas, contributes to my "A birthday? So what." attitude. LOL
29Sometimes I think now one is going to get me anything and I have something in mine. But most of the time no.
30My birthday is on Dec. 21st, so every year I make sure I'm done with all Christmas purchases by October, so come November and December I've saved up to spend it all on me... I must admit I go pretty crazy on buying myself stuff - usually expensive items I wouldn't buy throughout the year. Add to that my husband's birthday on Dec. 30th and December totally becomes birthday month, rather than Christmas.
31I do every year, and not just for my birthday. I do it for Christmas as well.
32YUP! All month long, too!
33Yes I do. I feel guilty asking people to buy me the things that I really want which at times are big ticket items for them.
34i havent but i used to do oit all the time. birthday presents, good day, found exra cash.
35LadyChaos, I hope you didn't cry on your birthday, although I may have once or twice in my life, so I do relate to the feeling...
Some friends aren't friends at all, but people who feed off of our goodness because they're energy suckers and have low self-esteem, psycho blah blah blah. Dump em! It's really true that we may find only a small handful of people that are truly friends in our lifetimes and we have to hold onto them tightly. This includes blood relatives.
Maybe this analogy will help: You're stranded on the side of the highway with a broken down Lexus...a car full of male models stops to help. They look good, act nice, compliment you on your Lexus and your new stilettos then change your tire, fix your wire, whatevah...
Then they're gone. Just like that. You know you'll never see them again. You'll always have the memories of how they looked, and what they did and said for that brief time. They were only around when you needed them and that's it. You may have wanted more from them, but they'd be much too busy (usually) to bother. They may have needed to meet you, however briefly, at that same time to learn that they can give help and not be the selfish, pampered men that they are...
Look to your long time friends. The one(s)that you feel comfortable around enough to say anything to. Those are the people who love you and will never desert you. Could only be family or maybe just friends, or both, but no doubt they are there.
Happy birthday!
As far as the self-gifting, I've been doing that since I was a teenager. I celebrate the whole damn week, one day isn't enough, lol.
36Definitely - I buy myself Christmas presents too! I usually wrap them and put them under the tree, and put from Santa....My boyfriend just rolls his eyes, ha ha!

38for sure...mostly I get myself something the week of or just treat myself to something...so that I feel special. Why wait for others to do it...when U know exactly what U want.
39I do it if I need some cheering up
40I just realized, my birthday is Orientation and Registration day for Law School. Since I won't know anyone yet, I guess I'll pretty much be forced to buy myself a present if I care enough.
41not really!
42Of course I buy myself a birthday present every year! It's just another reason to buy something I want without feeling guilty, especially if it's expensive.
