Dec 29 2016 - 7:00am

Use felt from the craft store for making hand warmers that are just about the best thing ever on a cold day. All you need is a needle, thread, and a bag of rice for making these cute helpers that also make special handmade gifts. And this DIY [1] is so easy and can be made with old sweaters or flannels, which is a great way to give old clothes a new life.

What You'll Need:

Directions:

  1. If you're using a piece of felt from the craft store, fold it in half and remove any stickers from the fabric. But if you're using an old shirt or sweater, simply fold over onto itself to create the sides for the warmers. Now place a drinking glass over the fabric, and trace around it with the marker. Go ahead and cut out the circles.

  1. Cut a three-foot length of thread, and straight stitch around the circle, working around one-quarter inch from the outside edge of the felt. Continue stitching until you're almost to the other side.

  1. Use a small funnel to help fill the warmer with rice, and then finish stitching the round closed.

  1. Your cute hand warmer is finished! To use, simply heat in the microwave on high for 10 to 30 seconds, and then pop inside your gloves or tuck in your jacket pocket for instant warmth.
