After hearing the news that a Wal-Mart employee was brutally trampled to death by discount-hungry shoppers on Black Friday, you might think eager shoppers everywhere turned out for after-Thanksgiving sales. While other retailers avoided such tragedy on the biggest shopping day of the year, they didn't draw in the same crowds and are now apprehensively facing the bad news that 2008 could end in the red.
The prospect of getting something for less might have caused some aggressive crowds, but the number of shoppers out this Black Friday didn't compare to those in recent years. Most of the people who did make it to the stores were seeking basic items over luxuries, making it clear this holiday season is more subdued in the material sense than retailers had hoped.
The Financial Times caught up with one shopper who admitted, "This year I’m cutting back. I’ll probably end up bargain-hunting on the internet." Good thing she and the rest of us cutting back have Cyber Monday sales to check out. Have you found any good online deals so far today?

They have some nice deals at Amazon and free shipping at ThinkGeek. I try to skip Black Friday as a rule.
1I don't shop on Black Friday. And I've looked today, but so far I'm not seeing any Cyber Monday things that I 'need' to get. I've seen some things that I like, but nothing I need or need to get as a gift.
2yup! Asos.com is $6 shipping!!!!! usually about $50. I just purchased a leather jacket and a wool coat. Next are my boots!
3Aldos - free shipping! I'm lovin' it.
Overstock had some pretty good deals today.
4I checked the cyber monday stuff, but nothing really struck me as a GREAT deal I also did the black friday thing and bought absolutely nothing.
I mean honestly the deals have been better in the past. A lot of stores just had signs up offering 10% off your entire purchase. That is not the "magic" number I was hoping for and I am going to rush to buy something when all i am saving is basically the tax.
5well i think that people are sometimes so insane and crazy on black friday - last year my fiance and i waited for HOURS to get a great deal on a TV and yes we love it, but come on - it's just a TV. this year, if i had any money, chances are i would have waited until today to shop online but since i don't have any spare money - it's a moot point. what a shame for me - it's really sad that i'm so strapped for cash. i might have to moonlight somewhere!
6Black Friday is such a mental thing...I didn't really see any good deals that I hadn't seen before or won't see in the future. People went crazy anyway. I really like Cyber Monday though, because there's no lines and lots of places had free shipping, so at least I got to shop from the comfort of my own home.
