After a frustrating day at work, many of you have probably said something along the longing lines of, "If only I could win the lottery." But in reality, how many of you actually play the odds?

After a frustrating day at work, many of you have probably said something along the longing lines of, "If only I could win the lottery." But in reality, how many of you actually play the odds?

No way. The lottery is basically a disguised way of throwing away money.
1I agree that it is a waste of money, but I am guilty of buying a few tickets a year.
2I buy a few a year. If the amount is a super large amount then I'll play or sometimes I'll play on birthday.
3I always thought that the lottery was a dumb tax on stupid people.
4lol, Marseeah
5i'm sorry, but normal ppl never win the lottery. it's always some weird person from Chippakwauya, Arkansas or something.
let's be realistic people!
6So, I had to say "other" and this is why:
Every year for Christmas my funny great-aunt would get everybody a lotto scratch card just for fun. Now that she died, my mom has been continuing the tradition. Last year, with my Christmas card, I won a free scratch card (ah yes, how they do keep some people's gambling addictions going with that one). But with my free scratch card I won $50! Haha not much but all things considered it was a pretty nice bonus.
I would never buy lotto scratch cards for myself...but I'm not going to say no if somebody gives me one!!
7Occasionally I'll buy a scratch ticket. My husband and father both play a lot though.
My father has won $10,000 two times. And he's also won $5,000 once. All on scratch tickets.
8I've never bought one myself although I have thought about it. I guess if it's a once in a while thing it's not so bad but I can't see spending tons of money on it.
9Thomas Jefferson once said, "A lottery is a salutary instrument and a tax ... laid on the willing only...", but I disagree. I believe it's a way for the rich to continue to get out of paying their fair share of taxes while the poor continue to carry the brunt, for who else dreams of winning the lottery more: the rich or the poor?
10Ok, some rich do play the lottery, but proportionate wise, it's the poor or middle class.
We get a ticket every week. It's only $1, or $2, I don't even know. The person who wins is always someone who thinks it'll never happen to them. I think it only becomes a problem when people spend more than they can afford on it, or live their lives thinking they're going to win. It's fun to daydream about.
11I only buy a ticket when the lottery winnings are obscenely ridiculous -- just so I can have a quick daydream and then go back to work the next day. Or sometimes I get scratch tickets in a card -- it's fun and harmless since it is so infrequent. Otherwise it's work as usual.
12I will rarely buy one. Maybe once in a blue moon. If I do, it's because we might have chipped in at work and someone other then me bought the ticket...
13But I think the last ticket I bought wasssssss 8 months ago maybe more like 10...
I bought lotto tickets once when it was a gajillion dollars just for the heck of it. I suppose it can be fun for some, but it seems most of the people I see buying tickets look like they think they're investing in stocks, not throwing their money away. As long as it's really just for fun and there's no belief that of actually winning then it can be ok.
14I never buy the lotto, well maybe once a year. But I loooovvve those scratch-off tickets! I buy them whenever I have some spare cash, I think they're much more fun because you can know if you won instantly compared to lotto where you have to wait for the numbers to be read on TV/posted online.
15I was just reading some of the comments, and btw there are rich people who win the lottery which is totally unfair. Last year, there was a politician(he could've been just a state senator or mayor or something, I don't remember) who won a few thousand on the state lottery, and he had won a few thousand a couple of months before. And I believe he was a millionaire or close to being one. Hmph... I certainly hope that he offered to give up his yearly pay, although I doubt it. Also, lotto isn't really that bad if you think about it (as long as you're not addicted) because at least in my state, lotto money goes to the schools.
16My state does not even have one!
17But if they did, I may get a ticket here and there.
Seems like a waste, but you cant win if you dont play!
When the CA and AZ lotteries get really big, people will drive and wait in line for hours to get one or Many! I never have. I just have my mom pick one up for me.
18We like scratch-offs now and then and win enough to keep it fun. On top of that, my siblings and I have been paying a 'family plan' lottery every week for years. Never Mega or Powerball; just the state lottery game. We each play a dollar a week and have won a couple of thousand a few times that we divide up. I know people who have won, so as they say: Ya gotta be in it to win it!
19Once, just for kicks. I wouldn't buy tickets regularly, though, as I'm too fond of squandering it away on tea and magazines...
20I'd rather buy some Starbucks!
21I do when I feel like it (but I always forget to look at the ticker afterward- I never check the numbers-goofy!).
Also, I go to Las Vegas and gamble when I feel like it. It's my money. And since my dad did when on the CA Big Spin once $15k and I figure it is possible for a schlub to win. Heck, it's random as Marci (ha weird that's my name but with a y) said 'You gotta be in it to win it'. You can complain all you like that the wrong person won but if you didn't play you were in the pool of possible winners were you, so you really have no right to complain.
22Sometimes I'll buy the powerball tickets. But otherwise I don't.
23I played a scratcher once when I turned 18 just because I wanted to be carded. Other than that, I really have no desire to play my odds. I'd rather make my money by working for it.
24Very rarely...
25never have, don't think I ever will
26I've bought a few tickets when the pot has been massive. I didn't even come close to winning. I'm a loser when it comes to gambling, so I'm not really a fan. If I were one of those types of people that actually won things once in awhile then I might play it more often.
27I never buy lotto tickets. The only time I'll play is if I'm given scratch offs (a common stocking stuffer in our family).
28For some reason I am only compelled to play when the jackpot is insanely high. Probably the same time EVERYBODY else decides to play as well. I was never really good with numbers...
29I do not support the lottery. I feel it is a disproportionate "tax"--even though voluntary--on lower income individuals/households.
30we usually buy a ticket if the jackpot is over 100 million dollars
generally, i
think it's a waste of money, but it's fun to dream about what you would do with all that money!
31I bought one last year when the jackpot was enormous, just for the hell of it.
32Ive played once since I turned 18 and Im 20 now and the one time didnt even count....my mom called and asked if I was going to play (the jackpot was HUGE)and I had her buy the ticket for me
33ive always wanted to buy one or two and i haven't yet, but i plan on playing eventually
34My high school teacher won the lottery. I figure that, statistically, that makes the chances of me winning even less than before!
35if it's an unusually high value lottery, i'll admit i've bought a ticket or two. but i'm certainly no serial lotto player.
36The only time I play anything related to the lottery is when our dad gives my bro and I scratchers for Christmas. The biggest prize I have ever won is $100 when I was 18. I have never played the "real" lottery. It's confusing to me.
37Only if the jackpot is insanely high! So, I've got a ticket maybe 4 times ever. But you never know. I might win.
My friend's neighbors won the lotto twice when we were in high school! And they weren't regular players.
38i hate the lottery..i mean i just dont care 4 it.
the
lottery is like a big disappointment, u hope and wish it will b u, the big winner and u get ur hopes all up and high and yea u find out ur NOT THE WINNER and BOOOM! ur not the winner, ur
DISAPPOINTED!
well at least thats the story in my house...ahem..parents.
they like make me get the lottery and buy it cuz they think i have some luck on my side, so like they want me to touch the money that i pay 4, 4 the dumb ticket and then yea touch the ticket...ITS RIDICULOUS!!! GET REAL PPPL!! i mean geeezz.
39Every couple of weeks my bf and I will buy a lotter ticket. We know we aren't going to win, but it's just our thing. Until the numbers are picked we always like to talk about what we are planning to do with the money. It's nice to dream
40I've only once bought a lottery ticket, when the pot was record-breaking.
41When the Powerball is at least $200,000,000.00 I'll contribute to the office pool. I have know idea why I wait until $200,000,000 I guess so I don't play it all the time. It is rarely that high maybe 5 times a year at max.
I received a scratch off this past Christmas as a gift and won $100, so somebody's winning these things.
42Yes I play and Yes I win too, actually just won $5500.00 on friday the day before my birthday and then won again the day after my birthday $391.00 so yes I do play, you cant win if you dont play
43rarely, if I happen to be at a gas station and get back ike $1 or two of change I will just grab a scratch off but otherwise I don't really play or spend much money on it.
44not me and my money!
