I am absolutely terrible with my spending. I grew up in an upper middle class family, and when I went shopping my mother spent WAY too much on me. In fact, even if I only wanted to buy one shirt, she'd convince me to get one in every color. It was extremely ridiculous and taught me terrible shopping skills.
Now I'm definitely more conscious about what I buy, but I still run up the bills like no man's business. I finally have got myself in the habit of buying a few expensive nice items instead of 30 items on super sale that I'll never wear. So I spent $180 on a Paige knit jacket and another $180 on a pair of Joe's jeans. They're now my most worn items.
Still, at my pay rate, I probably shouldn't be spending $180 on anything, especially clothes. I really don't know how to control myself, so I generally keep away from the mall.

2This quiz was a bit sparse. It should have included a question about how aware you are of prices when you are shopping...not just for clothes, but in general.
My husband is always on my case because I never look at prices on general items (grocery, drug, lower cost commodities). I just take what looks interesting and then when I get to the register I'm appalled that I picked up the $15 can of teabags instead of the $5 one but I'm too embarrassed to consider saying anything.

4I only shop a few times a month for clothes & make-up and when I do, I always make sure to buy something I REALLY like. For now on it's QUALITY not QUANTITY!
Now that I have my job at GUESS? I can buy super good trendy clothes for cheap! Half price! Isn't that smart
the best way to save money? go shopping with your rich roommates, because they dont go in the cheap stores like i would, so i practically vomit everytime i pick up a price tag.
5I am very careful with my money. Hubby and I live credit card free so that really limits spending. If all goes well we will be able to retire in 10 years (and I am only 30!) Nice!!!

Money is a tool for you to buy things that make you happy, but you don't spend beyond your means. Hopefully, you're paying your credit card in full each month when you do have those infrequent slips.

Um, were you describing me and my mom too?! Haha. My mother was the same way, still is the same way. My father, on the other hand, is quite good with money, but I grew up going shopping with mom and I definitely adopted her spending habits.
Now that I'm 30 and married, I am working on paying off my credit card debt and putting my money towards things I really NEED. I make a good salary at my job and I don't want to just blow it on clothes and frivolous things anymore. Of course, I still treat myself and if I really love something, I buy it, but I'm MUCH better than I used to be.

I don't even own a credit card though, just a Visa debit card so that I can still buy things online. My rule is simple: when it comes to non-essential consumer items: if I don't have the cash, I don't buy it. Even then I rarely spend much anyway (cos heck, I could go out and buy a few Prada handbags if I wanted to, but I'd rather have my nice little nest egg!).
I'm not extravagant, but I don't deprive myself either. My biggest indulgence is probably food - I buy fresh organic fruit and veg every second day, gourmet nut butters etc. At least it's going toward my health!
11My parents spoiled me growing up then I had to be all by myself at college, I never had to think about paying bills and if I want anything, I'll get it.
But when I start out even in college, I find that living by yourself (although your parents were helping out) were tough. You need to make sure nothing's late being paid, you have to take care everything yourself!
For me, the best way for me is to not have any credit card, but I do have one and I use it really sparsely, at the most: once a year then paid it off.
I guess, I'm naturally frugal (both my parents aren't as frugal as I am, even my mom admitted this!).

I buy stuffs from outlet stores only after I get my tax. And I pride myself for buying it at the cheapest price possible (yes, I look at quality very much so when I do shop, it'll take me so long to find the right thing for the right price at the right time
I don't buy anything half-heartedly.
I clip coupons and USE them. Go 2-3 different stores nearby the house so that I can get the best deal in diaper to ground beef or canned corn or cheese

For pampering: I go to beauty school (hairdresser institute) to get my $3 cut once a year. And as for mani/pedi, I only have them once a year right after tax return at a good place. The rest will be at-home thing.
I don't know why, but I LOVE saving up money and enjoy being frugal. But don't think I don't drool over shoes and clothes and bags...

12I don't understand why so many people have so little self control that they refuse to even have a credit card. I have three or four, and I pay them off every month, and I'm never tempted to go and spend money I don't have on things I don't need. Hmmm.
13hahaha my result was frugal! if so, that must be a recent developement. i've gotten pretty good lately with budgeting my money, the problem is i just don't have any money. i graduated from college in may, can't find a full time job, have 28,000 in student loans i had to start paying back in november, and about 2,000 still on my credit card from my summer 2006 in ireland. if i could just get a steady income i'd be fine. but the economic situation in metro-Detroit is just not working in my favor right now lol.
14Marseeh, I can't speak for everyone who doesn't have a credit card, but I certainly don't "refuse" to have one. I just don't need one at this point in time.
15My philosophy: Only buy high quality items, BUT watch and wait for them to go on sale! Also try to get classic items, things that won't go out of style in 2 weeks.
Neiman Marcus has amazing sales, I once got a $1,200 DKNY leather jacket for under $300. This was years ago, and luckily it's something that won't go out of style, and since it's good quality, still looks brand new.
If anyone has a Dillards in their area, check them out too, some locations carry higher end items. My best find there was a pair of Laundry trousers for $12! No kidding, originally about $200 I believe. It was one of those "take an additional 75% off marked down price" deals. I also got a pair of Coach shoes for under $20.
The only time I really splurge is it something comes up last minute and I need to have something right then, otherwise I watch and wait, and ask the sales people "when is this going on sale?"
16I love coupons and now as known as the crazy cat/bag/coupon lady by some of my closest friends. It lets me buy good quality stuff when I actually need it, but it also has its downsides. While I make a decent paycheck, I feel like I get ASKED to pay for things a lot more! (like by family members) What's up with that?!

yay - that makes me feel a little better about my habits...although if i took this quiz a few years ago - it wouldn't have turned out like that
