Although some of us may dream of getting paid to do nothing all day, being challenged at work is actually crucial to job satisfaction. If we’re not challenged enough, we feel bored, restless, and unproductive. If our tasks are too challenging, we feel overwhelmed and stressed. Where does your current job fall on that spectrum?

wow! The results surprised me! I thought I was alone in feeling bored at work! Some days I feel like I literally do 2 hours worth of work for an 8 hour work day...Does anyone else have such an unchallenging/unbusy job???
1my problem is i hate my job so much, i can't concentrate on what I should be doing, so I end up being bored. There's stuff I could be doing, I just don't want to do it.
2i do actual work about eight hours a week. mind-numbingly boring. i feel my brain cells dying off every day i'm there
3I know some people who only work a good 2 hours out of an 8 hour day and spend the rest of their days screwing around. If I only worked for a good two hours, if I stopped working in general, I would be so fired. I am a teacher, it's not like I can just sit there and twiddle my thumbs. I admit I get pissed that people like my boyfriend can jerk around all day and get paid his big salary, and I work all day and get paid very little for a job that requires me to do a lot, nonstop. Even on my lunch breaks at work, I am still working. I am sick, and I am still working. There is some form of work to do for me 24/7, I swear.
Am I challenged enough? I think so. My job is not very easy, it's enjoyable, but not easy. Thankless, too...so that's love.
4I would say there is a good balance of not being challenged and being challenged. It gives me a chance to breathe.
5Could definitely be more challenged, but with so many people being laid off in my industry, I feel lucky to have a job with a company I like.
6Most of my days are similar to frenchys.
I decided a couple of months ago to start projects and initiatives at work to keep me occupied.
7Luckily my manager encourages this. I hope some of these projects can help me move into a more challenging role.
I now work closer to 4 or 5 hours out of an 8 hour work day.
If you asked the question a year ago I would have answered that I was overwhelmed most days but now I'm just doing busywork for another week and then my contract ends.
8I hear you, MLH.
9Haha, I wonder how many of you guys work in healthcare/medical environments? I am literally going non-stop from the second I get my lab coat on until the person on the next shift comes in to take over the fort. There are days that I literally have to plan when I'm going to take a bathroom break. It makes the day go by very quickly, but there are seriously days when I feel like my head is going to explode if I have one more thing on my plate. It's especially bad now that respiratory season is in full-swing and the H1N1 virus is sweeping the state.
