On this week's Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David gets in a heated argument that escalates into a physical fight with Rosie O'Donnell over their lunch bill. Larry insists he invited her and should therefore foot the bill, and Rosie declares she put her hand on it first so it's on her. Pretty soon the two are yelling, wrestling for the check and causing a gigantic scene. Comedic genius. Have things ever gotten this heated when you tried to take the bill?

Haha, no, this never really happens. When we go out to eat, we either split it and each pay for our meals or one couple pays for the whole thing. It's never really an argument...usually if we take our inlaws out to eat, we pay because they don't have a lot of money. If we take my parents out, they like to treat us. Or if one person's celebrating a b-day, someone usually treats...it all depends. We've never gotten into a fight over it though.
1It depends. With friends, we take turns. On birthdays, the birthday person always gets treated.
With family and family friends, there are fights for the check. The fights can get epic.
Also, we scheme on paying the check, too. Sometimes one of us would pretend to excuse our self to use the restroom, and secretly go pay the check. Sometimes that gets thwarted,
as someone from the table spots the payer, and intervenes. Another trick is to offer to hold the other person's purse (by pretending there's extra room on their side of the table). When the
check arrives, the person holds the other person's purse hostage, so they won't be able to pay.
I know this sounds nutty, but that's just how our family is.
2I only fight with dates over the check.
3My family sounds like GlowingMoons' family, finding ways to pay the check. This past weekend I had family in town and the fight to pay the check happened at every meal.
