depending on where you work, music w/no headphones is fine. i used to work at a record label and never had to use headphones... the idea of headphones at my new job completely flabbergasted
me and my boss always tells me that i can't listen to my music loud (when i have headphones on). so annoying!
If you don't wear shoes, you don't affect anyone else really (well, as long as you have socks or something on) but if you play music that not everyone likes, it's pretty obnoxious.
Depends on the context. I've worked in a place where at some point of the afternoon someone would start playing music and people would request songs - it was GREAT. Relaxed, motivating, and a
great atmosphere - we all sat there in our own world and probably got much more work done than any other time.
I guess it's the same about the no shoes thing; if it's done in a not obnoxious way and in a place where everybody's ok with it, then why not? Work is so much better when people are relaxed!
I don't really mind the no shoes thing. Some people in my office do it which I initially thought was weird (actually I still think that way) but it doesn't really bother me. The music would
be so freaking obnoxious.
My officemate always plays music/videos and participates in conference calls with his volume on high. It's so freaking annoying! I don't have enough fingers for the number of times I've asked
him to use headphones.
I can't believe so many people have a problem with no shoes!
I guess y'all work in offices more professional (uptight?) than mine. We have at least 2 employees who literally NEVER wear shoes that I can think of off the top of my head. And I take mine off most of the time too. It makes me comfy
and happy!
Now music w/o headphones, that's a no-no here. We all love music but we all have different tastes and some of us are listening to music as part of our jobs... so everyone does headphones
here. My boss has fancy-pants noise-canceling headphones.
i think that walking around w/o shoes is worse. i have an iPod dock at my desk but i keep it really quiet so that even the ppl next to me can't hear it. i think that if it were louder then
i'd be annoyed if i were someone else. my asst sometimes plays music loud and she sits a bit away from me and if i can hear it then i'm annoyed. i think that in an office setting though you
should be wearing shoes when you walk around. in my last office we were all sooo lax since we were in south florida - but to be honest, i think that we took it a little too far when we were
barefoot in our department.

I get so disgusted when people walk around without shoes... you're at work not at home lets try to keep some level of professionalism
