Friday is the most popular day for employers to announce layoffs. I suppose this is less disruptive to the office as a whole — the laid off workers are left with the weekend ahead of them, while those left behind have a couple days to absorb what those losses mean. But really, if the pink slip were to make its way to me, I'm not sure the day of week would really make a difference. What's your take?

My employer will not do layoffs on Friday because there is a high suicide rate for people laid of on that day (they have a whole weekend to think it over).
1It's all the same to me. A layoff is a layoff and bad news regardless of what day you get the news.
2There is never a good day. I've been laid-off on a Tuesday morning and late on a Friday afternoon.
3I would personally rather be laid off on a Monday...it's already the crappiest day of the week; getting laid off would just be icing on the cake.
4Here, HR policies usually do not allow layoffs or firings on a Friday because of the high suicide rates. They are most commonly done on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
5I don't understand "they have a whole weekend to think it over". If you get laid off on a Monday, you have the whole week to think it over. And then the weekend too. If you're not working, what difference does it make what day it is? I'd think on the weekend you'd be more likely to have friends and family who are off and can hang out with you.
6If I had to choose a day for my (hypothetical) lay-off I would choose Monday. That way I can start job hunting pronto.
7I would be pretty angry about getting layed-off on a Friday becuase I can't address the situation for another 48 agonizing hours.
