The June unemployment rate for men was 10.6 percent and the women’s rate came in at 8.3 percent. According to Sophia Koropeckyj, an economist with Moody’s Economy.com, "The gap between female and male unemployment has never been as large as it is now." Do the numbers mesh with the jobless folks you know?

I know an equal number of unemployed women and men.
12 men, 1 woman
23 women and 3 men (although one of those men is unemployed because he quit his job to sit back and relax on the substantial amount of money he'd already made, so he doesn't really count)
3I know 11 men and 4 women out of work, personally. I do know people through others that are looking for work and it seems to be more women.
4Companies keep women on because they earn 88 cents on the dollar. It's a cost effective move
5Nobody I know is unemployed.
6hmmm honestly i am suprised. I thought more MEN would be employed. It just makes sense to me because men can do more of the labour jobs...while women usually don't take those jobs.
7I know more unemployed men, only because the women that I know mostly work in healthcare and teaching and other recession-proof jobs. Most of the men are in less indispensable jobs.
8Lovely_1 - it seems that most sectors of the economy hit worst are the stereotypically male ones - banking and car manufacture spring to mind.
