Earning a little allowance is nothing compared to the money you make from your first Summer job, no matter how terrible it was. Most of my paychecks went to filling up my gas tank, frozen yogurt, and the big purchase of a laptop I saved up for during the Summer before my freshman year of college.
Where did your cash go — did you spend it on gas, snacks, and new bikinis, or did you save up for something more?

I used my paycheck from my first official summer job (weeklong internship at a bank) to open my first CD. It earned a paltry amount of interest, but I was proud.
1Saved for college expenses. Since financial aid calculations had me putting most of my own money towards college, that's exactly what I did.
2hanging out with my friends when i was younger but the summer before college and onward, it went in an account which i then used to eat/drink while at school...and then when the fund ran out at Xmas, i'd work for 2 weeks to replenish it...then when it ran out again in March, my parents would front me the rest to get me through til the summer
3Same as Supercoolnat (back in the day).
4My parents let me spend some, but I saved most of it for all my spending money in college, all four years.
5Back in the day, I used the money to save up for university. The goverment(OSAP) gave me enough for the first two years, and I funded the final two.
6I had a job year-round, so I didn't do anything super exciting with my money than usual. My parents made me pay for my clothes and going out with friends, and any expenses for my car, unless I needed a major repair. I guess one summer I found some puppies on the highway and took them home, and covered the expenses for the vet. One needed her leg amputated. So that go somewhat expensive.
7I saved the money from my best summer job in high school to buy myself a laptop computer for college. The rest of the money went towards my college tuition and my school supplies and things like that.
8Saved it for spending money in first-year university!
9Used it for spending money during my first year of grad school.
10During my 4 summer years of HS and my last semester of HS I worked. I saved 98% of it and was able to buy myself a laptop for college and even paid for all of my prom expenses.
The remaining $ is in a CD collecting interest. I have no desire to ever spend that money at time soon.
