If you have a laundry list of places to visit, making a return trip to somewhere you've already seen might seem like a waste of precious vacation time.
Ed Hewitt of Independent Traveler makes an argument for the appealing elements of going back to favorite destinations, focusing on familiarity as a virtue. He points out commonly made mistakes the first time around, like losing out on a lot of money because you didn't know about the bus/ferry combination pass, or spending too much on food because you didn't know where to find good deals.

we do go back to the same places from time to time but more for ease than for it being a FAVORITE. there are times that we want to take vacations and go to new places, but if we're just jetting off for a long weekend - we'll typically go to a place that we know pretty well so that it's hassle free and we can relax.
1My husband likes to go to places that he is familiar with, I would prefer new places so we compromise. And then the new places I take him to become favorites to revisit, win-win.
2two places I can go over and over again: NYC and Las Vegas. Otherwise, I prefer new destinations
3We go back to Star Lake, WI every so often because that's where we honeymooned. We also frequently go to Door County because they have all kinds of neat things to do. I guess we like to stay close to home when we travel
4i like to try new places but there are several i have gone back to. i've been to london several times cause i love it over there, and i'd like to go back to rome soon. but i also have a long list of new places to try!
