Yeah, this is scary stuff. I've never personally had any fake money come into my posession, but I also wonder how you go about reporting it and getting restitution.
Yep, I once tried to pay for some things at Rite Aid with what turned out to be a fake $20! They called their security and wanted to go through my wallet to make sure I didn't have more fake
cash.
We finally all worked it out and they realized I really didn't know. Then they just said to give them another $20 to pay for my stuff but I couldn't because the fake one was my last "$20". I
couldn't go back there for months!
Fortunately no, not yet! But the accounting office at work has received a few in a cash bag. The cashiers are supposed to be marking all 20s, 10s, and 5s with a marker to make sure they are
not fakes. If they are and it is after the money has been dropped, then we still have to call the cops and do a report so they can investigate the incident.
Not in my change, but I've seen a lot of it because I work for a bank. It's really odd that some of the fake money can look so crude, yet some people are able to pass it, and some other fake
stuff can look so close to the real thing.
yes! i got a fake $5 back from a vendor at the farmer's market in westwood my senior year of college. i think it was a cashier at rite aid or ralph's that caught it and i took it to a bank
nearby to file a report.

So how exactly would you deal with being stuck with counterfeit bills? Is there some form of restitution for reporting the fake money?

5I wonder what you should do if you get counterfeit cash in change and you didn't know till you tried to use it? It's something I'd like to know.
6no - or at least not that i know of .
7No, thank goodness. But I've had a couple of suspicious bills come my way. Luckily, I was able to get rid of them.
