Munching a lunch you brought from home is one of the best ways to keep food costs down. Packing a variety of lunch foods will keep you from abandoning your brown-bag system because of boredom, and if this is already getting old, give yourself a break and designate one day a week for buying lunch.
You should only consider adopting this system if you can afford to buy one lunch each week. If so, make it a day like Wednesday when work seems to pass like molasses. My trick? I keep soup in my drawer so that I have an option if I'm not in the mood to splurge on my assigned day. That way, my lunch-out day isn't wasted.
Setting up one day for buying lunch can motivate you to bring lunch every other day, and gives you something to look forward to — a small price to pay for a little boost in your work week.

Good idea. I always designate Payday Fridays for this, but doing it mid-week sounds like an interesting idea.
1Too bad that the cafeteria at work doesn't always have great options for food, so I typically pack my lunch every day anyway. It's not too tough for me to think to pack something to eat, so I generally do it every day.
2lately i've really done this - i bring a insulated lunch bag with different baggies and containers filled with fruit or veggies and a little sandwich. this way i don't get hungry during the day and get forced to pay more $$
3i started doing this and it works wonders. you have to be careful though if your workload tends to be busy and most of your meetings are during lunch hour b/c my co-workers tend to order delivery in which i'm like okay! even if i brought my lunch....
4This is genius! Of course, it makes sense, but it just didn't click. It's so easy to buy lunch instead of bringing lunch from home.
5I bring healthy snacks and lunches everyday but designate one day a week where I splurge on something comforting and convenient. IE. Chinese delivery.
6I like to go out to lunch with friends on Mondays. Some Mondays that lunch date is the only thing that gets me out of bed.
7That's a really good idea. And if you save it all week you can go out for brunch on the weekend.
8I rarely buy out when I'm at work-save save save.
9I rarely buy lunch at my university, and I'm the only one I know who brown-bags it. Everyone comments on my wraps (they always look so good, I can't wait to eat them!) and wishes that they had the time to make lunch rather than spend money on overpriced crap. All you have to do is wake up a little earlier! It's not that hard!
10Every Friday is my lunch "splurge" day - simply meaning I buy my lunch instead of bringing it.
11Monday's are my buy lunch days.
12I have a designated lunch day (for some reason it usually winds up being Tuesday) and if I don't bu lunch, I throw the money in my splurge jar for spending later on something bigger.
13I designate buying lunch on pay days and it IS a nice treat!!
