The recession has put a huge dent in the demand for air travel, and consequently, airline ticket deals seem to be getting better every week. Still, experts predict airlines will suffer empty seats this Spring as travelers opt to stay home or take a staycation instead of expensive trips.
Will you be cashing in on your vacation days and joining the ranks of consumers who are still dishing out funds for travel, or do you plan to sit tight at home and rely on exotic foods to cure your wanderlust?

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen
i have taken a couple 3-day weekend trips (which end up being about as expensive as an all inclusive trip down south actually) but takes less vacation days (my bf is still in a job where he wouldn't get paid if he didn't show up and i only recently started permanent so i don't have many days either so we try to curb the vacation days)...we will go away next winter though
I want to, but right now it isn't fitting in the budget.
yep. hitting up the west coast in may
Yes, we're leaving for FL on Friday. There will be some weekend trips this year as well that we'll drive to. And hubby and I are going to his college reunion at USNA in the Fall.
Hubby and I have already vacationed in Vegas a few weeks ago. We're going to the beach in May for our 1st anniversary. Plus, we are also planning on going to either Hawaii or Mexico in the fall. We both love to travel and our jobs are safe so we're going to take advantage of some deals!
Yes. Myrtle Beach in June, Atlanta in August.
Just booked a great deal online, so planning a trip to Italy in September! Also planning a roadtrip here in CA during the summertime if schedule and finances permit.
Honeymoon to Hawaii in June!
Our summer vacation is going to be a roadtrip, visitings friends and family, CA to TX to CO to MT to WA to OR back to CA. Should be fun
I just went to Las Vegas two weeks ago for a wedding and will be going to San Francisco in May for my brother's graduation. I will probably be traveling later in the year for other weddings and for the holidays.
im going to maine to finish packing for my move to maryland for easter break, then chicago most likely for a week over the summer, and hopefully overseas at the end of the year! i dont have any time off other then these days so why not.
Yup! I'm heading to Disney World (for the first time!) in May with some friends. I haven't had a vacation in years, so I figure I deserve it lol.
i will be taking a few trips but nothing like last year. i'm really upset because it means that i might lose my silver elite status on my airline of choice. i wonder if airlines will be willing to be more lax about fulfilling requirements to be an elite member if you have a great track record for flying but this year was a down year. i hope so. cause that's one of the reasons that i fly so much - because i know that i don't have to pay for my bags on this one airline and i get priority when i fly - and given the hassles of travel these days, every little thing helps.
yes! I haven't traveled anywhere in over two years, so this will be my travel year. I don't know what everyone else has been doing for the past few years, but i've been saving like a chipmunk.
No, only for work.
Yes, probably in the summer...
I found a very good deal on cruise.com - We are going to Alaska this August. I want to see the glacier before it melt from global warming.
Yes, I'll be traveling. We're not going to let anything stop us from taking the Mediterranean cruise we've saved up for!
We're going to the U.K. in the summer.
We are going on a cruise to Bermuda in May! I can't wait we haven't gone on vacation in over two years. Luckily we already paid for the vacation in October or we wouldn't be able to afford to go right now.
Not this summer. I live in a beach town, so it always seems like a waste on money. I do want to do some traveling this fall and winter when life slows down! We need a TravelSugar!
Just a weekend trip with our family, nothing exciting for my husband and I, but our daughter is going to love the zoo.
Hoping to, Puerto Rico!!
New York at the end of April.. but I think that will be the only one!
We cancelled our big vacation plan so we have money to take weekend trips, attend weddings, etc.
On Thursday I'm going to Cabo with some girlfriends for a long weekend getaway. The rates were amazingly good!
I've got a wedding in August in Nashville and I'm saving for a BIG trip to Europe in the Fall, if all goes according to plan. I haven't been on a REAL vacation (more than a long weekend or to someone's wedding) since the Millennium! The rates are so good right now I can't resist since luckily I am on solid ground.
Two trips to France in summer and fall, and then probably a Mexico scuba trip for Thanksgiving and maybe to Salt Lake City for skiing at Christmas- we don't skimp on vacation!
I'm definitely travelling, flight is already booked! Currently living in the UK, going back to Canada to visit family for a month.. and I cannot wait!
We're not going anywhere big this year, but next year for our 5th anniversary, we want to take a trip to either Florida or California for a week. I'm definitely looking forward to it...we're going in the early spring and I'm always ready for some warm weather right about then.
I love to travel and definitely will be!
My husband and I are going to Berlin and London in August! The trip will actually only cost us about $500 total (not including spending money) because we got the plane tickets for free (cashed in a TON of frequent flyer miles), and we are staying with family in Berlin. The only thing we have to pay for are 3 nights at a London hotel and plane tickets from Berlin to London. Not bad at all!
I'm moving, so I'm traveling in that sense. Otherwise, I'm not going anywhere unless somebody else is paying for it.
We will be traveling but not as much as last year. We don't live close to family and our friends so travel is a necessity for us. We are trying to cut back. We just moved to a new state so we are going to take mini weekend trips within driving distance for our adventures this year. Air fair is pricey out of where we live. Hopefully gas doesn't get out of control again this summer.
Yup. I snagged super-cheap tix to Spain, with a free stop in Paris, so off I go. Staying in hostels, though, to keep prices low while I'm over there. I am also eBaying some rarely-worn clothing to help cover costs. I'd rather travel than have swanky shoes.
I've never been in a good financial position to travel much (recently went from broke college kid to broke "underemployed, don't know what to do with my liberal arts degree" adult) but travel is essential to living a fulfilling life IMHO. My current wish is to really explore my home state (Colorado) which, luckily, is a really neat place to do outdoorsy, adventure-y excursions. But Paris, Buenos Aires, and Sydney will always be on my mind.
Yes, we're leaving on Saturday on a 10-day Scandinavian road trip (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland). Then in August we'll go to Canada and the USA for 4 weeks to visit my family and do some shopping. And for Christmas we're thinking about going somewhere more exotic.
We really appreciate the 5 weeks of paid vacations we get here in Norway.
Yep, otherwise I wouldn't see my family. It's expensive leaving abroad and loving parents and siblings!
Yes. My family and I went to Disney World in January (great deal, cool weather, low crowds) and some of the girls and I will be heading to Oregon and Washington in August.
