Internet firewalls are facts of life for many office workers. It's an unfortunate reality that frustrates employees because they feel like they have less freedom at work. The selected websites don't all fall into scandalous territory, but employers opt to block them nonetheless. Here are the 10 most-blocked websites by small businesses, schools, and parents. Do you have access to the listed sites?
- MySpace.com
- Facebook.com
- YouTube.com
- Playboy.com
- Ebay.com
- Meebo.com
- Friendster.com
- Orkut.com
- AdultFriendFinder.com
- Espn.com

We can access myspace, facebook, and ebay, but we can't access any outside email programs. Definitely inconvenient, but they have their reasons.
1We can actually access all of these (I think, I haven't tried them all!) but they've recently started blocking porn sites... Long story...
2I've nvr heard of Orkut.com
3obviously they don't block Sugar at my work!
4They block a few of those sites at my work, but honestly I don't blame them at all. How can I agree to do a certain job for a certain amount of pay and then get angry when they tell me what to do? And yet a lot of people do. Hmmm...
5I have EVERYTHING still (facebook, hotmail, etc.) but I just got an e-mail last night saying that senior people are noticing admins on personal stuff. Come on people, give me a break...
I work SO hard and I reward myself with 15 minutes on FB etc.
6i'm not surprised by this one at all. at my last job, they blocked all these sites, and it was a challenge, since one of the accounts that i worked on advertised on the social networking sites and i was always asked to check things out, so our IT department had to unblock my IP address so only i could see the sites...they weren't too thrilled with me i don't think.
7Our company blocks based on level of employment. Like senior admins have more access. Although some websites (porn, eBay) are blocked for everyone.
8I have a friend who bought an iPhone because her company blocked her personal email site. I thought it was a pretty clever work around.
9I haven't tried to visit all of these, but I know that MySpace used to be blocked but now it isn't - not sure why.
Facebook is blocked, but I can visit it if I add the s in the url - change http:// to https://. I have to do it to every page so it gets annoying.
@TrueSong, that was a big reason why I bought my iPhone too. I can get on Facebook through the phone.
10I work for a creative company, so nothing is blocked. We have free range as long as we get our work done :]
11Who goes on Playboy at work???
12When I had a job where I was using restricted internet I just pulled out the iPhone and it saved my sanity! That was the moment it went from just another phone to my LIFELINE!
13No firewalls here.
14Nothing is blocked here.
But, I'm with sy, who goes on Playboy (or adult friend finder, for that matter) at work?
15lilkimbo I agree, umm who would go on those 2 sites at work???!!
FB and MySpace are blocked here, but not Meebo!!!They also don't lo=ike us to have downloaded messengers but I use G Mail to get to my AIM. Shhhhhhh...
16I know for sure Myspace, FB, Ebay, and youtube are blocked. Doesn't bother me too much though.
17I can access all these sites at work.
18I think i can get all of these at work i haven't tried them all but i definately get myspace and FB
19At my current job, I don't know how many of those sites are blocked because I've never tried going on any of them on company time. We did find out that MSN games is blocked though, lol.
And don't laugh about the Playboy thing...my old boss used to go to all kinds of porn sites at work (we caught him several times)...nothing was blocked there!
20I wish Meebo at least was unblocked. Our firewall is super-strict -- half the legitimate work-related sites I've needed to look stuff up on are blocked.
We've had Google blocked before. It was a mishap, obviously, but it was still hilarious.
21Nothing that I know of is blocked, but I'm not about to test some of those more risque sites on the list!
22i dont have internet access at work (and dont have time to access it even if we did!) but i know my brother in laws work blocks yahoo messenger. but they allow msn messenger, so go figure lol.
23I would die if they took my Meebo!
24The blocked facebook and myspace a while ago, but recently they blocked the e-mail sites much to the ire of a lot of people I work with.
25I don't know what I would do if they blocked this site though!
26The only things blocked on our computers are personal e-mail sites like yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc. They were available until about a year ago when someone downloaded a virus that trashed the servers. Not cool.
27I know we can access 1-3 & 5, but I haven't tried the others.
28I know we can access 1-3 & 5, but I haven't tried the others.
29lol. why would anyone go on adultfriendfinder.com at work? that looks like something could wait when you go home. one job i had didnt block it they put it on a watch list and if u went on it on the job you would get in trouble
