The second Sex and the City movie may be a sequel, but we can expect a lot of changes from the first version. Sarah Jessica Parker recognizes the need to make the new film recession-friendly and said, "How do we address these economic times in a franchise that has a lot to do with luxury and labels?"
Maybe start with discounted ticket prices? I kid, I kid. Michael Patrick King has a lot of thinking to do about how to make the SATC sequel more appropriate for the present, and he's been bouncing some ideas off of SJP for consideration. Do you have any suggestions for them?

Don't change a thing! I go to movies to escape. I know SATC is fantasy, but it's fun. Don't remind me about the recession when I'm trying to have a good time!

4well - i think that it's interesting that they are being mindful of the current economy, and that's a good thing. i guess maybe the first thing could be to show how one of the couples has to downsize a little? or maybe how they favor brands that are the lower cost versions of the designers. like the lines that they do for Target?
5Don't water it down! Thats crazy. Its all a dream for me anyways, I would never spend/live like they do.
6Big is an investment banker/broker. He should lose his job/company and they would depend on Carrie to get them through.

I don't watch SATC, so I have no idea how they'd make it more recession-friendly (or why they'd WANT to...people don't want to be reminded of how bad things are when they go to the movies, for crying out loud).
8In my opinion, the movie was over-the-top as far as labels were concerned. Yes, in the show there was mention of labels but they were always coupled with lots of non-label items... in fact, that's part of what made Carrie's (at times peculiar) outfits all the more interesting - a mix of designer & vintage. If they're thinking of going "recession-friendly" how about returning to the show's style as opposed to seemingly selling out to expensive designer labels?

11B. it you must, don't change it. the show is so unrealistic anyway. like a writer would be able to afford everything carrie buys. it's just an escapist show. like spectra said, i don't think anybody would want to see this movie if it was a reminder of how crappy their own lives are.
I think people watch movies like SATC and Confessions of a Shopaholic for the love of escapism. I think if they want to do a sequel then one or two of the characters would lose their jobs and have to deal with the outcome of that. Wealthy people struggle too, so perhaps they could show that. I don't mind them bringing in a bit of realism, as long as it stayed Sex and the City. I don't want SATC to turn into "SATC 2: Frugal during the Recession." No thanks.
12I go to the movies to escape reality...don't change a thing! I know that SATC is unrealistic, so it doesn't bother me to see their crazy spending habits.
