Thirty days ago I challenged you to take the first steps to getting your budget on track by using the SavvySugar spending tracker. The whole purpose of tracking your spending is to make your habits visible, so that you have a good idea of where you could be spending more wisely.
Have you been tracking your spending for the last month?

I've been doing it since November. I have my budget set up in a Google Doc, so I log in after every purchase, and punch it in.
I always do. I'm very money conscious.
I don't really track it, but I also never overdraw my account. I keep a general idea, I suppose.
And, sadly, I don't need to track it to know where I could save money: eating out and buying clothes.
(and cosmetics)
Same here -- I've always tracked our spending and income. I am intimately aware of our cash flow.
I dont track, but I do remember most days where i spend my money. I have been good about not eating out and watching my inpulse spending. I have gotten better and notice I have more money.
I've been doing this more recently because i used to have the really bad habit of starting my weekend with let's say $300, and come Monday afternoon I'll have like $20 left and have absolutely NO IDEA where the heck it all went. It's worse in the big picture because my last major job I was making like $1500 a month and I worked there for 8 months. In the end I had only saved like $2500. This is no major expenses (lived with my folks so not rent, no medical bills...ect). I didn't have much clothes or any luxury buys or nothing to show for it. After that job I vowed to be more careful about what i spend and tracking it as well.
My grandpa (since he was like 7) would always carry around a little notebook and pencil and wrote down every last penny he spent. All these years later, he'll still carry a little notebook around (even in a suit jacket!) so track it all. I aspire to be like him.
Oh, and totally off-topic, I have that lacy tank top she is wearing in the picture. Same color too. And I'm wearing it under a sweater right now! Thought it was funny.
I've been tracking my spending since June...when I started working at a bank
i started tracking mine in mid-to-late december, and i've saved $2700 since. i am super proud of myself.
I don't track it penny for penny, but have an idea. All my re-occurring bills are constant and I go out maybe 2-3 times a month. I'm a Netflixer and stay home a lot.
I started a new job back in November and set up a whole budget for myself to keep track of my fixed expenses and keep a closer eye on my spending.
I said no, but that's because I always spend about the same amount of money every week. I budget X dollars for groceries, Y dollars for household supplies, and $20 cash for incidentals. And if I want other stuff, I'll definitely plan for it. Seems to work pretty well.
I usually do in the summer when I make all my money, but I made it a New Year's resolution to try to do it the whole year this time. So far so good!
Little bit horrified by how much I spend on cookies & coffee though!
I have for two years now. Got very money conscious when I moved out on my own.
i think that i tried to at the beginning of the month, but now - not such a success story. i do know that i've really cut back on what i've been spending on - and that's a good thing at least.
No, I do not track. I have money and purchases planned for transportation, groceries, and household items; etc. I have a small jar at work with change in that I bought from home that I may use sometimes if I want to buy something other than that I do not spend money.
I've been tracking my expenses since October. I find it really useful.
sadly, i tried for a couple days and stopped because i spend too much to bother spending the time to write it all down
counterproductive, i know
i'm also exactly the same as lilkimbo...i spend on clothes and food and i don't need to track to know that
i try to use cash or my debit card for everything so i can always look at my online statement to see what i spent on, and how much
Well, I'm very good about balancing my checkbook and checking my statements, so I usually know where my money situation stands. I don't make myself a budget though...I just kind of mentally keep track of what I SHOULD be spending money on, and what I shouldn't be.
I start using mint.com recently. just found you had this site (i've read popsugar before) I love it. will be back (and am curious about your own tool).
I did that for a few months when I first got a full-time job after my masters, and when I got my current job (since it pays slightly more than my previous one) - I wanted to have an idea of how much money I was spending, on what, and how much money I had left. Now I don't anymore, but I always know what's in my bank account, and know that if I have a few extra expenses one month I'll just the a bit more careful the following month.
