Starbucks didn't make us wait too long for the details of their new value-oriented offerings. In its "Hello to a New Day" campaign beginning on March 3, the struggling coffee chain will roll out its new "food and drink pairing program." Most of us are familiar with the concept from fast food value menus, but Starbucks marketers are steering clear of associating their company with the value menu verbiage. For $3.95, Starbucks will offer the following pairings.
- Tall drip coffee and one of four hot sandwiches
- Tall latte and a slice of cinnamon swirl coffee cake
- Tall latte and a bowl of oatmeal
Starbucks' marketing chief Terry Davenport commented, "The most important definition of value is the one our customers have. In this environment, it's about everyday affordability." Do you think the new pairings offer true value?

i don't really see this as being a value offer. it's complicated since they don't really offer 'value products' regardless, and yes they are packaging it nicely so that you're paying less, in the hopes that maybe more people will buy multiple items, but i can't say that i'm going to change my purchase habits there just because of this new idea.
i think that they are trying to get drink customers to buy food as well, and that's just not something that's interesting to me. from a food standpoint as well as a financial one.
1for some reason i find the bowl of oatmeal option hilarious.
2Well, none of their sandwiches are actually "hot". They all look like they have been sitting there for days. Also I have tried the oatmeal and it has to cook in hot water in the paper bowl while you sit there and hold it and it is really gross- and cold.
3I don't frequent Starbucks anymore. I used to go there once a month for a vanilla frap, but not anymore. It's just not worth it. And I don't see these 'value pairings' being worth it either.
4I'm not a Starbucks person, but the price certainly seems reasonable...it's about what you'd pay anywhere else for a descent breakfast
5I don't really consider Starbucks to be purveyors of decent breakfasts. Their food may be cheaper than before, but these days value has to mean more than that. How about some nutritive value instead of a big chunk of carbs and sugar? A midmorning blood sugar crash is not what I call a deal.
6It seems as though they're really trying something different and that's a good thing. But I think that their value meal could be a bit cheaper.
7I've had both their sandwiches and oatmeal. Both very yummy. So as a treat for myself I may go once a month and get a SBUX value meal.
8I wish I could pick my own drink. I love their oatmeal, but I hate coffee. I'm more of an iced tea lemonade kind of girl.
