Salary transparency started making some traction in 2008, and salary sharing sites like Glassdoor have continued to gain popularity in some professional circles. This trend has caught on in certain companies and specific lines of work, but we're a long way from the trend being the norm. i HOPE not. i think that it's something that's personal to an extent and i wouldn't like for others to know what i'm making. there are times that i'd wanted to know what a co-worker made to make sure that i'm on par, but i think that it's an invasion of privacy to have it broadcast.

2It wouldn't be a good idea. This matter is private for its reasons. I have a co-worker who's always asking people how much they earn and I thought that was brutally disrespectful. It's none of her business.

4I can see salary transparency becoming the norm for a while. If the economy gets much worse, and many predict it will, there are going to be a lot of changes in the business world, and until rules and ways of getting along are sorted out, it will be self-protective to know what the salaries are all around you.
5I hope it will become the norm, salary transparency would hold employers accountable. I got the short end of the stick, I came on at my company early and other employees who came on later and in lower positions were paid more than I was paid when they came on.
With salary transparency employers need to justify why one employee may be worth more than another, whether it be due to experience, education, or just drive. If employers can't justify the difference then why should there be one?
