It's inauguration day, which means Barack Obama officially begins his new job as President of the United States. Obama will receive an annual salary, as with any other job, except he won't be eligible for a raise during his term. What do you know about presidential salaries? Take the quiz!

$400K isn't much but I bet they don't have to pay for anything. . . like I'm sure they don't buy plane tickets for traveling or like groceries . . or for the girls to attend private school . . .
1"George Washington was paid a salary of $25,000 a year from 1789 to 1797 as the first president of the United States. The current salary of the president has recently been doubled to $400,000, to go with a $50,000 expense account, a generous pension and several other benefits. Has the remuneration improved?
Making a comparison using the CPI for 1790 shows that $25,000 corresponds to over $585,000 today, so the recent raise means current presidents have an equal command over consumer goods as the Father of the Country. "

Very interesting information, flyingroo...
3I think that $400k is plenty, considering the endorsement power, speaking engagements and other perks that are included once his 8 years are up. See what I did there...? He basically can sock that money away into an account since all of his daily needs and the needs of the first family are taken care of by the White House budget.
4WTF!!
5I think $400k is reasonable - is he the highest paid person in US gov't, I wonder? Considering what he could make as a plain ol lawyer or something, that's not much. Granted all he has to pay for is like his mortgage back home, and tuition for his girls, and savings (but I'm sure the pension is great, and there are no shortage of job opportunities if he is successful), and expenses like clothes (excuse my ignorance, but is it legal for companies to give him/michelle/his girls free stuff, in exchange for publicity, like any other celebrities? Or are there a lot of limits on that kind of stuff). So it's plenty of money, for someone with free housing and travel and food most of the time, but not unreasonable sums either. It's kind of a hard job.
6so how does Obama's salary compare to Bush's?
7gonedelirious- Seems from the article that he will make the same as Bush. It doesn't increase every term.
8$400k is plenty, being that they don't have to worry about rent, travel expenses, food, and a heck of a lot more like the rest of the public.
9They won't have a high ass mortgage for 4 years. And their other home that they're keeping is probably paid off by now.
10Yeah, that salary sounds fine to me.
11However, I've heard that they will have to pay for their own groceries and dry cleaning. Big deal, right?
1/3 i suck.
123/3 yay!
13Where do I begin??? My rights are being subsequently taken away!! I pay more in taxes. A promise that got him ELECTEED. SORRY OBAMMA DON'T TREAD ON ME! If the admin is going to spend $$ on infastructure and attempt to build a medical system ....stow it...spend the money of which is intended on for such things as: EDUCATION, agrigulture, NORTH AMERICAN TRADE (INSTEAD OF AN EMPTY CONTAINER) so we can re-build some RESPECT if nothing else.
I am sick of being governed by a vote that is based on the previos assministrations results instead of reality. I FEEL LIKE A PRISIONER IN MY OWN COUNTRY!! it'S great but needs re-built from "WE THE PEOPLE....
