Some people buy for quality, some for quantity, and others just buy the things they love or the things they need. After learning about one frugal woman who says the most expensive thing she owns is a pair of contacts, it made me consider what is my priciest possession. Granted, this particular woman makes a point of not earning taxable income because she doesn't believe in federal taxes, but we're all responsible for deciding what's important to us.
So, tell me, what's the most expensive thing you own? Was it a gift from someone else or did you purchase it for yourself?
Ray-Ban
mytheresa
Chloホ
The most expensive thing I own is the new (very top of the line at the time) computer my parents bought me several years ago. The most expensive thing I've ever bought myself... probably an MbMj skirt?
1our Prius- we bought it together out right . . no car loan or anything so it's totally and completely ours.
I'm not sure if cars count for this "poll". . .otherwise I would have said my engagment ring- but the Prius is considerably more expensive than that!
2Definitely my engagement ring
3If houses count, then that's it for sure! Although I guess we don't technically own it yet, the bank still owns about half of the thing. . . .
If houses don't count, then definitely the 50" plasma tv we bought each other for Christmas ^_^"
4I'm assuming that we should exclude houses and cars. Otherwise, the answers get pretty repetitive, I'd imagine. Without considering house and car, my most expensive item is my laptop, followed closely by my engagement ring.
5my drafting table is the most expensive thing i own. One of a kind designed by a family friend who is a furniture maker. It was a gift from my parents and the maker.
The most expensive thing i ever bought myself was my mattress set.
6Besides house and car - my sanity.
7aside from my car, my laptop and my designer purses i'd say
8house, then car, then ring, then tv
9my diamond earrings are super expensive...my bf bought them for me...
and my car too...which my bf GAVE to me lol...
wow i am spoiled lol!
10my necklace is worth more than my car LOL (i love my bf). my ring is worth almost more as well.
11good for you Lovely!!! no shame in that!
12House, car, ring, and piano.
13Either my Marc Jacobs bag, diamong ring or laptop. Oh wait then there is my flat screen LCD TV.
14my car and my engagment ring from the FI
15my car and my engagment ring from the FI
16I rent... so my car, a ring my parents and grandparents gave me several years ago, laptop, and TV.
17I have antique furniture and paintings given to me that came from the home of a lady that lived to be 103! I definitely have to get them appraised to find out the worth.
18Other than that my engagement ring and my gold and emerald pendant earrings which together the appraised value on those is close to 8K.
You know someone at an interview asked my this question and I told her that perhaps I am strange becuase I do not place a high value on material things regardless of their cost. I place value on the things that could never possibly be replaced if say a fire or flood hit.
In that case the most expensive thing I have is a little yellow cotton baby dress with matching panties (diaper cover) from when I was about 3 months old. My grandmother made it for my oldest brother and eventually it got put on me and given to me when I was 6 by my mom. It's a very very tiny dress and it could never be replaced no matter how much money one spent on it. Also the full set of Noritake China that my father gave my mom when he got back from Japan.
No if you want shear monetary value then my classic MGB which is sitting up on jacks in my sister's garage. I own it outright, it was a gift from my dad via my sister and her husband. In it's current condition its worth about $20,000 cash once it's restored it will be worthy double that or more. However, once it is fully restored I will be giving to my youngest nephew as a legacy gift from his father. My brother-in-law died before he got a chance to buy another classic British car to leave to his youngest son. So my youngest nephew has always felt left out since his oldest brother inherited his dad's 67 Jaguar and his next oldest brother got the 65 Austin Healy - Jeff got nothing. So I told him look your dad originally bought this MGB for your mom as a wedding present and your mom gave it to my dad, and your grandpa gave it to me. Your dad always wanted to buy it back to give it to you but he didn't get a chance so I'm going to fix it up the way your dad would want all original OEM materials but my nephew's choice of non-standard colors and then I will gift it to my nephew.
The gift of my nephew being inn love with the MGB because his dad whom he lost to soon and loved so much so something that is extremely valuable and priceless.
I'm sure that monetarily I have a lot of other things that are valuable but since I have no plans to ever sell these things - they have no true monetary value for me.
19my laptop, but i don't have a car, rent an apartment and am not engaged or married .... hopefully one day though ...
oh i should mention that I'm a graphic designer so its a super fancy laptop
20Engagement ring. I still can't believe it every time our insurance statement comes through.
21Probably my car, although I have alot of expensive jewelry.
222004 Mercedes benz C class. I OWN that sucker now (paid it off 2 months ago) and it was pricey.
23It's between my wedding ring set and a David Yurman earring/bracelet/ring set I got as a grad school graduation gift... all from my hubs.
24my house
that's the most expensive thing that i own, although i'm still paying for
it (i HATE mortgages). anyway, aside from that, my engagement ring is up there as is my car (that i'm leasing)
25My youngest dog.
26And if you count vet bills, my oldest dog. :\
27My laptop for sure. I got it second hand from the BF, but new it was probably over 1K. I don't have a car or a house so that's it by far.
28My car and my wedding bling.
29That I actually own? My engagement ring and laptop. That I'm still paying for? My car.
30House (own 30% of it)
Hubby's car we own (mine we lease)
My wedding jewelery set (engagement ring, wedding ring x2, bracelet, studs, and hoops - all diamonds and they all match).
We are very good with sticking to our rule of only putting money into things that keep their value. As a result we dont eat out a lot, dont buy clothes that go out of style in a year, take very few vacations).
31My harp, which is worth more than my car. It has actually gone up quite a bit in value, unlike my car!
32Materially speaking, a lot on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico...wish I was there right now!
33My student loans!
My car and my laptop.
34My iMac and Chanel glasses and sunglasses.
35Right now, my college and professional degrees. They're both from prestigious universities. All student loans paid off.
36Hmmmmm. I would say my house, my car, my professional degrees and some of the jewelry I have....
37Easy, my car and my furniture. Though I still have a few years left on my car loan, and a few months still to pay for my furniture and other various move-out-on-my-own expenses.
Oh well. The car is at 6% interest and the furniture is interest free until June.
38The most expensive thing I've bought for myself is my macbook pro. It'll be overtaken by my undergraduate and doctoral degrees when I finish the latter and pay the respective loans off.
39If we're not counting houses and cars, then ... once it arrives next week, our new sofa. It's the first piece of furniture we've bought new; it's not expensive in the grand scheme of things but it's expensive for us.
40My car, not that it was even a very expensive (second hand and a bit old). I also have my grandmother's engagement ring, but I think I should get that appraised and insured.
41My education, I am paying off my loans now.
42a Louis Vuitton bag
43Besides my house and car, my 60-inch HD plasma tv and my Mac Powerbook
44my mac. nowadays its probably not worth as much but i has helped keep my sanity during uni and now continues to do so while i'm working.
45Car. $500, plus $100 repairs. And the wonderful gift of good new tires.
Other than that. I share a really nice set of furniture with my roommate. We paid $1300 for four pieces.
But the thing I value most is a lamp my uncle and aunt made from a cherry tree in their woods. It would probably sell for thousands in an art gallery. But I always value art made by people I love more than anything.
46Besides my education, my jewelry collection (generous parents!) and the antiques I’ve bought myself and inherited.
47My 8-diamond Movado watch.
48My car and my imac. I paid for both.
49My car is the most expensive thing I own, next followed by my $1000 laptop.
