You might expect that workers would hold onto their jobs for dear life as the economy tanks, but many haven't been discouraged by the weak job market and are pursuing new positions.
In a CareerBuilder survey of more than 8,800 workers, 19 percent of workers said they have getting a new job on their list of things to do in 2009. Respondents noted the usual suspects for wanting a change: Pay, career advancement, and a work/life balance are the primary reasons workers said they're motivated to job search.

I want to...but I also want to stick it out here until profit sharing!!! I have lasted the 2 years and I want my pay lol!
1Only if the economy improves and stability comes back...
2Without a doubt, yes, I will.
3My job is good, they invest in me a lot. But if a similar job, only closer and better paid, fell from the sky...
4I'll be here for the next two years... then the goal is to move back east. I miss my ocean!
5this is a really good question. my challenge is that there isn't a position above me that i can move into at my current job and even though i love where i am, i kind of like the idea of being able to grow and move up. i may look for something, but i'm hopeful that maybe something could work out where i am.
6yeah, next week to be exact
7I like my job, but they don't pay me enough for me to pay my bills, so I'm actively looking for a new job.
8If I am in the same job at the end of the year I will hurt someone. I've been toughing it out but there is only so much I can take!
9I will remain with the same "company", my title and expertise will be the change.
10i'm applying to law school right now, so it depends. if law school doesn't pan out, i'm thinking about moving out of the country and teaching english for a year while i reapply.
11Yes. ASAP.
12I'm looking for a move within the company.
13There are talks of me moving up within the company I currently work for, but if that doesn't happen I will be packing up and moving back east (near the ocean). Either way, I will be changing jobs. I'm not really sure which I want more, though...I've been wanting to get out of the desert for a while, but the job opportunity here is really good and could lead to a better career for me in the future. I guess I will just have to wait and see where the wind blows!
14OMG...i sure hope so.
15i am in a low paying job with which i can barely make my bills. so i'm hoping i can find something that can pay just a little more. i am way too qualified to be a receptionist but don't have my degree yet so i might not be able to achieve my goal
Yes. I'm three weeks out from finding out if I still have a job. So cross fingers!
16Yes. As we speak I am actively trying to leave my employ with the City of SF. I really don't care where I go but I want out of civil service because the SF taxpayers suck and have extremely unrealistic expectations of the cities employees. Actually they think of us city employees as their personal slaves or maids.
17I'm searching only because I was laid off...however, if I still had my job I definitely would not be looking in this economy. But it's encouraging to realize a lot of others are looking - more opportunities will be available!!
18My bf was offered a job in another state (and in this economy, you don't turn down a job), so we're going to have to relocate this summer and I'll be looking for a new job. As well as applying to a new college.
19I work three part-time jobs, and one of them pays well and could hopefully transcend into something full-time and permanent with another institution. If it doesn't happen soon, I've been doing my job well enough to continue after my contract work with them is complete, even though it would still be part-time.
20Here's hoping for a new opportunity in 2009!
21Well, there are talks of future layoffs (though I'm not sure if my department will get hit), so it never hurts to always be on the lookout for a new job!
22I chose 'other...'
23I was in real estate and we all know what happened to that nightmare!
I'm going back to school and getting into healthcare...
I'll probably be changing jobs as soon as I finish my degree.
