1 evening at one of my first jobs, hosting at a restaurant on Melrose. It just didn't work for me, clearly.

when i was 16 i called in and quit an hour before i was supposed to be there on my first day of training... so that's a negative number or something.

I think my shortest was 5 months. I didn't like the job, but I stuck with it until the summer when I started my new job (which I'm still at 3 years later!).

I worked for a month selling newspapers. It was awful, but it paid $9 and hour and when you are 16 that's a gold mine, but I couldn't get over how awful it was to get yelled at everyday!

I worked two months as a temp until my paperwork went through at another job I was interested in (I also let the employer know I was getting hired for another job).

A week and a half. $10/hour for work that pays $80k/year if you take a test, everything being an argument, and the people on the phone can't understand you unless you're fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese. Pass, thanks. Not for me.

Worked for two weeks at a lunch spot downtown, taking orders, making coffee and cleaning. It sucked so I gave two weeks notice. I was there for one month total. Now I tip like crazy, cause I know that I can't hack it!

A weekend working at Cracker Barrel when I was in HS. It was their busiest weekend of the year and I never went back.

A couple of days at a crappy insurance office where the agent made you do work his training materials specifically told you was to be done solely by the licensed agent.

In high school I was a waitress for 4 weeks. 2 weeks as a waitress and then I gave two weeks notice (didn't want to burn a bridge).

One day, at the front desk of a hotel that was too demanding for my full-time college schedule.

1 day as a bank teller. I was in college, and I got hired thinking I was hourly and they really wanted me full time. Not with school! I timidly told them it wouldn't work and they were pretty openly unhappy about it. Only job I've had that I had to be fingerprinted for (and I worked for other banks, too).

Beyond student jobs... My first job, in executive recruitment. I lasted 10 months though I really HATED the job, but it was with the nicest people I've ever worked with and for to this day.

I lasted 5 weeks as a telemarketer (oh, sorry, teleFUNDRAISER) and when I quit, my husband told me he was surprised that I even made it that long...it was truly a horrible job. I felt like I was getting paid to con old ladies out of their Social Security checks and it didn't set right with me.

3 weeks, working temp at a nonprofit while I waited for a job to open at my current employer.

I worked a little less than a month at a restaurant.
They hired me, telling me I'd be a full time hostess, and since I had such great experience, they'd make me a server within a few weeks. They scheduled me 7 days some weeks, three days other weeks. Even on the weeks when I was working 7 days (on top of a college courseload, btw) I wasn't full time, because they'd give me 2-3 hour shifts sometimes. They hired six servers in the four weeks I worked there, and didn't promote a single hostess to server. I've been assistant manager at restaurants, I'm pretty sure I could have served three tables at a time. So when another job I'd interviewed for called me and made me an offer, I made sure that I was going to get a full schedule at the new job, and quit the old one. They were livid that I only gave them two week's notice. The manager said she would have expected a month's notice - when I'd been working there for two and a half weeks. WTF!

5 brutal months

I worked at one of those seasonal mall Halloween Costume Stores after spending to days being force to accost mall shoppers in Mid- September while wearing a crappy costume I simply did not show up for my just scheduled shift.

I did however a few weeks before Halloween take my at the time toddler nephew in to the store to get pieces for his Dick Tracy halloween costume. All the employees there including the manager were brand new - everyone EVERYONE who had started when I started had quit.

One day! The company "created" a job for me when the one I was going for was given to someone else. I was hesitant to take it, because the pay was so much less than the other one. So to entice me, they offered one week extra vacation and a $10K raise after a 3 month trial period. When I started the job two weeks later, 3 of the 5 people who had interviewed me were no longer working there! Also, the HR Director who offered those perks (and was one of the 3 who'd been fired) had not left a paper trail (of course!)... and when I mentioned what he had offered, the admin laughed at me. So... yeah. I walked right out and never looked back!

2 weeks for which I worked a total of 8 hours during two 4 hr shifts. it was my first job during high school.

One month as a retail sales girl in a lingerie store. They required that every employee signs up one shopper for a store credit card (which was a bad deal, btw) every two hours. And the managers made sure I was constantly reminded of how much I was failing to sucker these people. Ugh. Never again.

a year actually, working as a media assistant for my university homepage. I discovered that sitting-down jobs are not for me, as I would fall asleep pretending to type at my desk practically every morning =X heheh.

6 months

1 month, and most of that month I was sick picking up germs from the children. It was at a daycare facility.

i had a job for about 4 months or so - and then i realized a few things. 1) my boss SUCKED - he had me doing the worst stuff (i.e. lying to his wife, doing his expenses and yelling at me when he lost receipts), 2) the job itself was boring, 3) i decided that i had to leave the area (move from NYC to FL).

for the most part though, i typically stick to a job for a min. of a year and then sort things out. you have to give it a fighting chance.

i worked at victoria's secret for one month after i graduated college while looking for a "real world" job.

2 weeks at an assisted living facility. My last day was when I had poo thrown at me. I realize the man was senile, I don't blame him for it... but that just wasn't going to work for me.

I worked for 1 month as someone who calls people to take surveys. They kept cutting hours (one week I didn't work once!) and I hated the stress. No breaks in a 6 hour shift, and no headsets so you had to hold the phone for 6 hours!

um... an hour and a half.
I attempted to work in retail after many years of not, and it just didn't work. I walked out and never even claimed my paycheck.

I worked at a Mexican food restaurant for 2 months. I quit because they weren't paying me and three days later the place went out of business. I had to threaten the owner with a lawsuit before I finally got my money.

About 2 months at a bank. $11.50 an hour and very cushy. I got fired because $1050 was missing from my drawer one evening. I was devastated and confused to say the least.

One job in high school I didn't even show up for my first day. After school, two hours as a door to door sales person. Having my boss drive beside me for two blocks as I pounded the pavement and got fussed at just was not even remotely worth the $9 an hour pay.

I got hired at Petsmart to be a groomer, went and picked up my uniform and boots, and was to start the next day when another job opened up and I took that one instead and called petsmart up to say "thanks but no thanks" I felt bad for them , having to find someone else! ....but not too bad.

A five month internship to full fill school credit requirements. After my internship was up they hired me full time and didn't talk about benefits or a pay increase. I found a new job and walked within a week.

A year at Walmart...working in their bakery wasn't so bad, but the hours were horrible.

At Eastside Mario's, an hour or so into my first shift I was told that I was "wasting time" rinsing the only (really nasty) cloth they had to clean all the tables... it grossed me out so much I walked out.

2 months, I had a reason for staying such a short time.

4 months working for a printing shop. Oh, let me count the ways: The part-time accountant - who mentioned her Masters in Accounting not once, but three times in a 10 minute conversation - only got 3 out of 8 paychecks right. One time she direct deposited too much into my bank account. When I told her about the problem and asked if I should just write a check to the company for the amount they overpaid me, she said no because she would just reverse the charges. She ends up not reversing the charges(but I didn't realize it because I was working another job in addition to freelancing) so the next pay period I get a check for $12 and change - because she decides to just withhold the amount from my next check instead of checking with me first.

Then there was the owner - who in the interview said he did not expect anyone to learn the intricacies of the job in anything less than 8 months - then proceeded to, not just reprimand me, but stood 4 inches from my face and screamed at me about a job that a co-worker, who only made it into the office an average of 3 days out of 5 screwed up on. The same owner changed the layout of several jobs I had done, with the result of totally messing up the end counts. One customer ordered 2,500 ea. of 2 items and 5,000 of another - but ended up with 1,000 of one 1,500 of another and 8,500 of the 3rd, because of this incompetent boob, but he forces ME to call the customer and apologize for HIS mistake and THEN asks me to tell the customer that he owes more money because the order he got was for 11,000 items total and he only paid for 10,000.

The deal breakers for me were when I got hurt on the job - which I am still suffering effects from - and put off of work by a doctor, given occupational therapy appointments 3x a week, and was told by the doctor that I had to soak my right arm (I'm right handed) in tub of warm water several times a day. The boss says oh if we put a container on your desk you can soak your arm and come in to work right? My desk was 3 ft long with a computer, monitor, printer, lamp and telephone on it not to mention client folders. Oh, and the whole thing with the IRS calling every day about backtaxes owed and having to lie and say the owner wasn't there to take the call...yeah, that was a GREAT job *sarcasm*
