In a landslide win, you voted Bank of America as the best commercial bank of 2008. My bank account isn't with B of A — it's with a smaller, more regional chain — but Bank of America is my credit card carrier and I don't have any complaints from that perspective.
It was a dramatic year for banks, and Bank of America has managed to keep itself out of most of the chaos. The large, national bank tried to set itself up for greater success when it purchased Merrill Lynch, and it's a decision I doubt has seen a moment of regret.
Do you have an account with B of A? What do you like or dislike about it?

I banked with them in, it was awful, constant mistakes and false charges they could never explain.
1I have never banked with Bank of America. I have been with WAMU for years. Now that they are JP Morgan Chase it is great since I have my mortgage with Chase. I had no problems with WaMu, before I was with Bank United who was purchased by WaMU.
2I JUST got an account with Bank of America so hopefully this bodes well for me.
3They don't have any branches near me, so no, I don't bank with them.
4i do have accounts at BoA and part of what i like most about it is the security and ease of banking that i have. i usually do my transactions online and when i have issues, there is usually any number of great customer service steps that i can take. i also feel really secure with things because i'll get notification when they feel like my card has been compromised. granted sometimes it's annoying, but living in NYC - you can never be too careful.
5Don't bank with BoA, not that many branches around here, and Chase is immensely more popular (and BETTER, imo, but of course I'm biased).
I've banked with Chase for almost 10 years, and they've been great. There are full branches *everywhere*; I can deposit and withdraw wherever I go, which is really nice.
6I remember being in Salt Lake City doing research, and all the people who had BoA couldn't deposit our payment checks because there weren't any full branches there...but there were TONS of Chases!
I like National City...although I am a little biased because I work there.
7i like bofa. no complaints yet
8You know what's great? Having your landlord call you and say your rent check bounced when you're on your way to the airport to catch a flight to a city where none of your bank's branches exist. The money was in my account, but B of A "held" one of my paychecks for a three day period for unexplained reasons, and being that San Francisco has such high rent, I REALLY needed that check to be in my account.
The weirdest part about the whole thing? I deposited that check a WEEK before I even sent the check to him. There was plenty of time for it to clear and it even showed in my balance when I checked online. I had to pay his bounced check fee and my B of A fee (which I called and they reversed, but refused to pay his fee).
Luckily, my landlord was a retired banker and knew all about the common complaints of B of A bankers (he actually recommended Wells Fargo, ING, and federal credit unions instead), so he didn't make me pay the additional $75 late fee.
I just switched back to my old federal credit union even though there aren't any branches for it here. I would rather do all of my transactions via satellite locations than deal with all of Bank of America's BS.
9I bank with BOA and overall I like it. I feel very secure with them and there are tons of branches and atms around, which is nice. Plus there are no weird charges, and I have automatic deposit which they LOVE. Been with them for about 6 years and while other banks or credit unions offer free money, I don't think anything is worth losing peace of mind where all your hard earned money is concerened. That is one of the main reasons I've stuck with Bank of America.
10I heard that Bank of America is one of the worst in customer service and satisfaction. That's interesting that they would be considered the best on this survey.
