We're lucky to be inspired by amazing women in the media, whether they are working moms, entertainment moguls, trailblazers, first ladies who are awesome in their own right, dedicated humanitarians, or brave cancer survivors. I know that choosing the Best of 2008 in this category is going to take a lot of thought for me, because all of these women are role models in some way. It's a toughie, but who gets your vote?

I'm amazed at the way Heidi Klum balances her many jobs and her family life
1Christina Applegate's positive attitude earned my vote.
2I'm sure they are all great but none on this list.
31)Oprah
2)Michelle
3)Hillary
4)Maria
5)Heidi
What is Angelina doing on this list such a waste of skin if you ask me.
4Well, I do like how Heidi is business and family oriented...but not the best role model. I don't think the best role model, in my opinion, can be found on this list.
5I agree with Chrstne. None of these women will earn my vote for best role model. Maybe best portrayal in the media as such, but no thanks.
6this list is not only politically biased, but also seems like a hodgepodge of women who had headlines rather than women who are role models.
7I could see Maria Shriver as a role model but not any of the others, sorry!
8I think savvy should have defined the word "role model" because I get the feeling that some of us are just a little confused.
9who is the best news maker?
10What about Sarah Palin? What about Condoleeza Rice? Cindy McCain? Sorry, Savvy, but I disagree with your list big time. If you're going to be political, at least balance it out.
11Though I like Michelle, Hillary and Maria very much, I think Heidi deserves a special mention. Because she has shown that it really shouldn't matter a damn what others think as long as you are happy.
Heidi is a blonde and blue-eyed, gorgeous supermodel and seen as an epitome of Caucasian beauty. Yet she married the dark, big, African- origin Seal, because they are madly in love with each other. Now, I definitely don't mean he's not good-looking; I mean that a large part of society would think; hey, why is that blonde angel going with that super black guy? Couldn't she do 'better'? (I stress that I don't agree with this idea of 'better' at all!! it's how I think a lot of bigots must be thinking under their breath). In fact, a lot of 'neonazi's' have condemned her for 'defiling the Arian race' and that such a beautiful specimen of that race should not be 'wasted' on a man like Seal.
I think that's bullsh*t, and I really admire Heidi for just doing what she wants and not caring for society! She has truly followed her heart and they look so happy together.
12and I wanted to add...it's especially commendable for someone who is in the looks business!
13I agree with a couple of others. This list is totally biased and 'role model' needs to be spelled out.
14While I think there are better role models for women out there, on this list, Christina Applegate gets my vote. I think the way she handled the whole breast cancer ordeal was just amazing. I don't know if I would handle it as well.
15This is a really incomplete and skewed list.
I do like seeing Heidi Klum here, though, because she's proven she has some business sense as well as beauty, and is balancing her career(s) and family and a strong spouse with a demanding career of his own.
What about Carly Fiorina, to add another strong, accomplished woman who was overlooked here?
If you want to focus on media celebs, what about Nicole Ritchie, who has really turned over a new leaf this year?
I don't see that Michelle Obama accomplished anything of her own this year, so it's too soon to put her in the running for role model or big achiever. If anything, she had to learn to rein herself in and play the supportive spouse. Not easy, but not an achievement, either. Did anyone give Hillary points when she had to make a similar adjustment? Maybe in a couple of years.
16Where's the "other" option? i would've written in Sarah Palin. this list is ridiculous.
17I like that Tina Fey is politically aware and excelling in an occupation (comedy) that doesn't usually have its fair share of strong, savvy women. I'm not sure what exactly we're using for "role model" criteria, but I definitely admire her for that.
18Where's General Ann Dunwoody? She has accomplished things no woman has and earned respect and power all on her own, not by riding her husband's coat tails. Just saying.
19And yeah, this list is the tard.
20Trixie, I agree. When I saw the list, first thing that was on my mind was that this list is quite left-winged. Not that I would consider Sarah Palin as my role-model, but if Michelle Obama can be on the list, then why not Laura Bush? I also think title like 'role model' is usually used to describe people with more virtue and great achievements such as suffragettes or Mother Theresa.
21Also, there are so many interracial couples nowadays, especially if you live in a big city. I don't get what's such a big deal about Heidi marrying Seal. Shouldn't Carmen Electra be on the list as well then? Arrgh, I find Angelina Jolie to be gorgeous and I respect her for adopting children from literally alllll around the world, but I'm sick and tired of media portraying her as Holy Saint.
22Maria Shriver?! Gimme a break, I voted for Tina Fey! She's accomplished a lot this year.
23i kind of knew that people were going to choose michelle obama since the whole political thing, but we have to remember that politics isn't the only thing that we should focus on. i think that i'm kind of on the fence about who i would choose since i'm not really in favor of one over the others.
24VanillaJ ~ Carmen Electra may be seen as too 'trashy' to appear as a role model, maybe that's it..
25Christina Applegate, cancer survivor.
26Yeah this list is ridiculous, where is the other option, what about your mom or your sister someone close to you, or yes other female politicians?
27My vote is for General Dunwoody.
28Christina.
29I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this list as incredibly biased.
30yeah... not to discredit Michelle Obama because I'm sure she's a lovely person, but she didn't really do anything extremely role-model-ish except be married to someone who won the election against someone who didn't have a shadow of a chance. I mean, Obama won on his own merits, he could practically have been married to Sarah Palin and still won.
Anyways, like I said, I'm not saying she's not a great person, just trying to point out one of the (several) flaws of the list.
31Hillary.
32I like Michelle Obama but I'm kind of shocked she topped Hillary. Afterall, Michelle is only in the public eye because she is married to the person that went head to head with Hillary. Whether you were for Hillary or Obama (or neither), I think it's kind of insulting to consider a future First Lady a better role model than a woman who came pretty close to shattering the political glass ceiling...
33I can't staaaaand Oprah. I'm so glad she only has a few votes! lol
34Every one on this list is from the far left. None of them would be my choice. But forced to choose it would be Sarah Palin.
I will never forget Mrs Obama's quote, "For the first time in my life i am really proud of my country." With all that we have donated in money to help in times of natural disaster as well as lives of our finest sons and daughters to keep other countries free, she was not ever prod before her husband is running for President.
35I think Oprah does a lot to help other people she really inspires me to be a better person. No offence but Michele Obama didn't really do anything and neither did a lot of the other people, but kudos to Christina for being so couragious.
36....Just forgot something I do think Hiedi is a good role model to not just a model. And I do have to add that this list is biased everybody just voted for the "democrate" this year beacause he was African American and he promised changed but if you ask me don't you that he should be making those changes instead of going all of the late night talk shows. I am not racist, skin color doesn't matter to me,but do you really think he has what it takes to be president?
