Your version of getting crafty might be limited to stickers and colored pencils, but it's never too late to expand your horizons, especially if branching out could lead to saving some cash. During this season of cocktail parties and family gatherings, consider that finding out what everyone has been up to could inspire you to pick up a money-saving hobby. Ask around about what the other guests enjoy doing outside of the office and you might be surprised at the answers — even Kate Hudson is getting in on the DIY gifting fun.
At a press conference for Bride Wars, the actress told People that she's giving homemade gifts for the holidays and said, "I think it’s a really weird time and I think that everyone is feeling it. We’ve always been pretty crafty anyway. We all knit. The girls knit. This year I’m doing these great big knit . . . well, actually I shouldn’t even talk about it because I can’t say it!"
Why not include a new, money-saving hobby to your list of resolutions for the New Year? Are there any hobbies that you'd like to add to your repertoire?

I love to make things, but I try to do to many projects and they never get done. As soon as we move I'll be able to decorate our home, which I love to do. Also I would love to pick up quilting. My mom quilts and make beautiful quilts.
1I'm giving knited gifts next year, I only learnt recently and I can't give them my 1k1p learning pieces.
2I'm making knitted coffee cup sleeves for everyone this year!
3Knitting is actually a rather expensive hobby. Good yarn (like cashmere or cashmere-merino blend) costs as much as the finished sweater from somewhere like J. Crew. Still, good tip! Getting handmade things is nicer than store-bought, I always think.
4I think this would be much more charming if she wasn't very, very wealthy.....
5I decided to learn to string pearls. Stringing pearl necklaces for sisters this year as a Christmas gifts. Chinese freshwater pearls are super cheap to buy. I've already planned on learning to make soap next year...doesn't whipped cantaloupe honey soap sounds good? hehe.
6I knit, and I make beaded jewellery. It's mostly pretty simple stuff, like stringed necklaces, for now, but it adds the flash of accessories I probably couldn't afford otherwise.
7i think that it's a smart thing to figure out how creative you can be and not be cheap-o for the holidays. i always wanted to learn how to knit so that could be fun, and in the past i've done some type of cool picture and picture frame combo.
