Continuing with our Best of 2008 coverage, I'm dying to know about the splurges that helped make your year a little better.
You know that saying about all work and no play? The same concept goes for money — saving is incredibly important, but it's also necessary to treat ourselves sometimes so that we have motivation to continue on a healthy financial track. Hopefully you have no regrets about your splurges (as in, you didn't go into debt for them) and consider them well worth the money. Which one stands out as your biggest splurge of the year?

Avon
Bloch
American Vintage
Finally buying my dream car after saving up half its cost over 2 years. Very scary and exciting and I'm loving it.
1Our house (ours as of Friday, yikes) is definitely our biggest expense of the year but I wouldn't call it a splurge - to me that has the feeling of spending money you shouldn't on things you don't need. We only bought what we could afford, we got a good value and a good rate, and we put down as much as we could.
2I'm a student and this is my first year in college so its my MacBook
3We went to Hawaii last month
4St. Maarten trip in August
5I bought a car. Ouch.
6o crap! I totally forgot about my Yves! I bought a car too! A used car but she still cost higher than my trip
7We bought a Prius and a Honda Civic coupe- I love them both so much and don't regret the purchases at all!
8Vacations are always our biggest splurges. I'm from Hawaii, so we go back often. And of course there's the deposit for our trip to Europe next year. I know the economy isn't great, but I want to take the opportunity to travel before we start a family.
9I surprised my husband with a Carlos Boozer Utah Jazz jersey for something like $80. But now Boozer is injured, arrrrgh!
10January 2008, I splurged on a nice vacation for my boyfriend and I. A film that I was in was at a film festival in San Diego and it was nice.
11My biggest splurge was paying for college. wooo
12there was no "other" section... but i got myself $600 worth of ink (tattoo), and an appointment to do about $600 more.
13Hmmm... My biggest single purchase was the Wii Fit. But I did get some fall clothes and shoes that totaled up to a bit more, but I didn't buy them all at once.
Congrats Freakshow! I'm doing the same thing, but I'm still saving right now.
14a bunch of clothing and shoes this year....
15It was a combined purchased. I brought a new laptop (FINALLY!!), and wireless printer. It was 8 years in the making.
16We haven't splurged on anything this year unless you count plane tickets to be with his family for Christmas. I am not counting that because I think of splurging as getting something you really WANT, and I really did not want to spend money on this!! lol
17We bought a house. We get the keys tomorrow! That's definitely our biggest expenditure for the year, but it's money well spent and we got an amazing deal! I'm so excited to get in there!!
18I bought tickets to Kanye West's Glow in the Dark concert...for $80. In Utah!
Yes, that is my biggest splurge because I *so* didn't need it. But the concert was awesome!
[I was ABOUT to buy a D&B purse yesterday for $220...but I fought the temptation and WON!]
19I haven't splurged on anything this year. Maybe next year.
20looking at this, it seems 2007 was my bigger year in terms of splurging, because i bought a car, my expensive designer bag, and took more vacations than this year
but this year, i'd say an event, because i saw a bunch of concerts and went to more sporting events
21my flatscreen. i wish i could have waited until december when the prices dropped but i got an amazing deal and i really needed a tv at the time.
22My new Nissan Rogue.
23My computer died not too long ago. So I had to buy a new one. A really cheap one, only $400 but thats the most I've spent at once all year.
24this year it was def my pretty new car
I also got a cool new tv for my bedroom.
25There's no other option, but mine is that I got Lasik!! And I love it! Worth every penny!
26I bought a car and got married! Talk about spending! Next year will be much more low key I hope! Financially at least.
27I bought a car and got married! Talk about spending! Next year will be much more low key I hope! Financially at least.
28Bought my GORGEOUS Solstice this past April and just paid it off today:) Gotta love bartending!
29It would have been "other" if that was an option -- I got a lot of furniture this year. Moving cities, getting an apartment with the fiance -- all led to a major case of nesting. I'll be so excited when we own a condo to put our stuff in!
30My husband and I bought a new mattress, which cost us over 1K... eeek! Worth every penny though!
31I bought a Coach that I was waiting patiently for as well as a bunch of clothes! Next year will probably be worse.
32I finally broke down and traded in my old, beat up Mustang for a new Volkswagen! I love my new car and even though I spent more than I had originally planned, I do not regret the purchase at all!
33There's no "other" category, but we bought a woodburning stove. Now we have free heat for the winter...YAY!! Plus, we're saving natural gas and oil, so we're being "green" by having it. Gotta love that.
34I voted for "bought a house" but were actually adding an addition. So really I bought half a house and it isn't done yet!
35Pastry School $11,000!
36I bought my husband a new computer.
37I bought Versace glasses, several designer handbags, and tons of shoes! And I'm thinking about getting Chanel glasses....
38Did I mention clothes and jewelry? Definitely spent a lot of money on that!
39Going to the US twice this year.
And I did buy a few expensive things makeup wise - although I don't feel bad since they're good quality products and I usually keep things for years. Plus I'd wanted them for a really long time and now have no wish of buying more.
And whatever, I'll blame it on Bella.
40I guess buying a laptop and a Mulberry bag to put my laptop in. Since I'm a student, I can't splurge often. However, I will start working next month (my first real job), and I have list of things I want to get BADLY.
41Gadgets and books. That's were all my extra money went.
42Lets see...our biggest expense was our king sized foam bed and frame. Our next biggest expense was getting an extra 4 inches of 4 lbs memory foam for the bed.
Wait. Actually our biggest expense was moving down south. We drove 10 hours and 650 miles in a truck. We paid around 1,000 for the truck, like 500 in gas, and our stop at a hotel + food and other stuff we needed.
We're the people who make good money, can afford nice things, and are very cheap anyway.
43We purchased our first home.
44My husband and I just bought each other a king sized mattress for Christmas. It's a pretty high end one so there was a bit of sticker shock when I first saw how much it would be, but I LOVE it! Especially since we've been sleeping on an old mattress on the floor for two years (since we bought our house)
45now that i think about it - i said that my biggest splurge in 08 was a gadget (i.e. my huge tv) but now i realize that i actually got it on black friday last year so it wasn't an 08 purchase. i guess this year it was either my wedding dress or a vacation.
46First time I have had two days off in a row in 8 years, and with 5 weeks paid time off, and decent pay? You know it was vacation! I could have paid off my debt entirely, or traveled and made memories. Best decision I ever made. I met the man of my dreams, traveled three times to see him, and now... I am moving to London. Sometimes a "splurge" is a new lease on life.
