Guess she figured people would start expecting to get new cars when they go on her show. Heck, what's the point of being in a talk show studio audience unless you get loads of free stuff?

I've never been much of a follower of her favorite things, but they always create so much buzz. She's just a person people you don't have to rush to the store to get something just because she likes it.

I used to like the Favorite Things show...before it started getting ridiculous and people were like passing out and having heart attacks b/c they were getting $10,000 worth of stuff.

It'll be nice to see some stuff I can afford on the show this year. As for this thing that costs nothing...i'll bet it's like "love" or "kindness" or something like that...

I don't watch a lot of Oprah now. But I would like to see this particular show.

now that I am unemployed I have been watching Oprah a little more than I ever have. Not daily by any means but I will be watching this.

well you know that everyone seems to think that she's always going t ogive the world to her audience, and she has to cut back i'm sure. when people start to expect things, then that takes the point out of it all. i wonder what she's come up with this year though. it's going to be an interesting one, but we know that oprah has been on all these 'do gooder' kicks lately, so i'm sure that it'll be in line with what she's been doing lately.

i'm really curious to see what she (her producers) came up with!!

i'd be so disapointed if i were in the audience this year though!

This is a nice change. About her school, she said, "I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don't ask for money or toys; they ask for uniforms - so they can go to school."

I thought it a bit hypocritical to say US kids only want these expensive material goods, when her Favorite Things show plays into materialism, and in effect, spurs on more materialism when everyone goes out to buy the products, often selling them out.

I think building a school is wonderful, I just don't think you should make those comments regarding materialism when you yourself contribute to the fervor.

Personally, I'd rather not have to pay taxes on $10,000 worth of stuff.

I like seeing the list after the show airs, because sometimes there are some fun things that I wouldn't have found on my own. But I can't sit through Oprah anymore at all - she drives me crazy!
