i do know how much i spent. the catch is that last year was the first (and probably only) year that my fiance and i bought a few joint gifts for my family so that they could have nice things. we just don't have that money this year. he was doing MUCH better financially so that meant that we could get nice things for my family and this year we just don't even know if we'll be able to get any gifts for our family.

my family has so many kids in it, I go broke every christmas. It's not like you can just skip one of them, then it's all, "aunty, where's my present?" and at 20 bucks a pop it adds up, my husband and I agreed on just getting each other one dvd to make holiday expenses more manageable and I hate it.

Yes, I know exactly how much I spent last year. I made a budget and stuck to it for the holidays last year.

I have a pretty good idea of how much I spent last year. I try to have a limit for each person when I go into the store to buy something.

This year though, I got a lot of my shopping done in July and August! I was studying abroad, and instead of bringing back souvenirs for my friends like I normally would. I decided to save the souvenirs and give them away as gifts for Christmas. Most of my friends will be very surprised since I asked them what they might want as a souvenir when I was abroad and then they never got anything. (Hope they haven't been holding grudges! haha)

I use Quicken and categorize everything.
So, I know exactly. Just pull my report for Christmas 2007.

yes, I have a list somewhere listing what gifts we gave last year and how much they cost. we're buying much fewer presents this year because we have less income -- we're skipping much of his family (like cousins) and not giving each other any gifts. I'm also skipping gifts for all but 3 friends. I will have some wine wrapped up and on hand for anyone else who gives us a present and we feel the need to reciprocate.

Last year? Almost nothing.

I was in the middle of moving and selling nearly everything I owned..I had just met my current boyfriend and so we spent a lean, frugal Christmas together just grateful to have made it through what had been really bad years for both of us, for different reasons.

I think between the food (I baked a ham) and gifts, it wasn't even 150 dollars. We mostly played video games, watched reruns of the UK "The Office" and watched the fireworks on New Year's eve.

I kept a spreadsheet tracking what I bought and how much I paid for each person so I know exactly how much I spent. I'll be doing that again this year.

SDTransplant, I do the same thing and it works great. We budget $100 a month($50 a paycheck) for Christmas and we usually don't spend it all. What is left either goes into savings or is the start for next years Christmas fund.

My husband spent a gazillion dollars last year. This year we bought early and plan to ship early too, so we don't have to pay astronomical shipping fees to make sure they get there by christmas.

I always spend roughly the same amount of money each year. This year, since I have a steady job now, we may spend a little more. Plus, I have a nephew to shop for that I didn't have last Christmas, so I'll be buying stuff for him too!

I spent a lot last year, but I could afford it then. My "dream job" required taking a huge ass pay cut. It will be a frugal Christmas this year.

Truthfully, I don't remember. I don't keep track of my gifts that way.
