I bought ties for my dad and brother last year from Hermes. I wanted to get them something really nice and classy that they will be able to wear for years to come. it was a sign, nothing in the store had a price tag on it. I should have known to walk right back out but I thought, this will count for christmas next year and the year after and maybe even the year after. I walked out of there with two beautiful silk ties and $420 less than when I had entered. thankfully both my brother and dad know of Hermes and properly appreciated the presents as well as wore them to my wedding.

Anyway, the most expensive single gift I've given was to my husband for his birthday this year - a beer-of-the-month club membership. He still has some of the beer from the last installment, so it's really lasted a while.

A little over $2000 for a Lakers NBA season ticket for my dad. He had them when I was little so I thought when he retired that he'd like to start going again. But umm...no. He used one ticket then declared that Valdy sucked and that he would rather watch the Clippers than go to another Laker game.

My husband and I don't usually spend a ton of money on each other, but the most expensive gift I've ever bought for him would probably be his wedding band. If I spend too much on him for birthdays and Christmas, he kinda gets mad about it...which is no fun to deal with.

well, for my current fiance, i bought him a brand new laptop for his birthday this past year since i don't like to share mine and he didn't have one.

for a previous boyfriend though, i paid for him and i to go to the bahamas for 4 days once and stayed at the Atlantis, and then another time i paid for him and his cousin and his cousin's GF to go to disney world for new years. mind you i didn't realize that i was going to have to shell out all the money - i assumed that they would have paid me back for fronting the cost of the tickets, but i was SADLY mistaken.

Well I think - looking back, the last Christmas with my ex-husband was a pretty schmanzy one (I think we both were trying to buy our way out of how we felt..hehe.) So my old record was a week-long getaway to London when I still lived in the UK. I treated us both to a week at a lovely hotel near Picadilly and we just really went berserk for a few days. That same season I got him a really beautiful Armani cashmere scarf so that all definitely was the biggest.

But what will give me more pleasure in giving, I think, is my my planned gift to my boyfriend this year, which is a tie between a really kickass phone, or a new gaming monitor. (I have not decided yet which, but he needs both badly!) Doing something nice for him just feels better, because I know he appreciates it. And I truly don't care what he gets me, because what he GIVES me is a sweet, supportive, honest, patient, AWESOME guy 365 days a year. Since he is in University still, I always say "Just get me a CD or something, you know I don't need anything!".. and I mean it.

It seems like a lot but we have no kids, and I am an only child, and my parents and I always just exchange simple fun things to keep shipping costs down since we are far apart. (And my dad fusses if I spend anything.)

So...consequently, I don't have loads of people to buy for, and I have been quite frugal this year so I really look forward to getting him something awesome - he had very little in his life and asks so little, and as long as I know it won't freak him out, I look forward to the look on his face!

I will just say that I hoped it was useful to that person. I certainly made me feel great.

i gave my mom $300 cash once to spend on herself however she wanted but she ended up putting it away and said, "i'm saving them for you, for emergencies". lol

but actual gift, my bf. i bought him a smartphone for christmas last year... got one for myself, too! lol. but it was a b*tch cuz i had to pay cancelation fees too and all that jazz.

I bought my boyfriend a $650 surfboard for his birthday a couple years ago. He also got an iPhone for his birthday this year. He's spoiled. He still says his surfboard was the best present he's ever gotten though.

When I was in high school, I saved up money to buy a pair of custom made shoes for my ex, and he bought me a pair of Manolo. Since then, I haven't been in any serious relationship to purchase anything pricey. Instead, I always buy myself a gift of two during the holiday.

It had to be the SJ sharks tickets I got for my now fiance a couple of xmas's ago, they ran me about $300 bucks and they were amazing seats (4 rows up from the ice). We had so much fun and got great pics. Well worth it.

I took my sister to NY (from SF)bought tix to the lil mermaid on Broadway (it is her favorite disney movie of all time) and we stayed in a five star hotel with car service from the airport. This was here christmas and birthday gift last year. This christmas I am taking here again but this time for a whole week.
