As girlfriends, we have brunch together, ask each other for hair and wardrobe advice, dish about the latest on the dating scene, and get worked up together over world news — what's stopping us from helping each other save money? Taking a note from FitSugar's strategy for working out with a buddy to stay motivated, recruiting a friend for pairing up to reach money saving goals could be just as effective in making us more accountable.
You don't need to have identical goals as your friend, maybe one of you is trying to pay off debt and the other wants to save up for a vacation, but both of you should have the main goal of getting your finances on track. Help each other create a plan for reaching your goals and then check in a couple times a week, or how ever often you feel is appropriate. A little help from your friends always makes the tough things more manageable, and success is that much sweeter when you get to share it with someone else.

I think a saving buddy is a pretty good idea. Its easier to do things in groups and a lot more motivation. I had a running buddy to help me keep active.
1well i think that this is good in theory but i have to say that it might be hard for myself since i don't have a lot of friends that are in the same financial situation as me. i work with people who i know make the same amount or at least i have a sense on their salary - but i have 2 homes that i pay for so my commitments are harder. i guess it could work if it means not shopping or at least being mindful of shopping if you have someone to always do that with.
2I think this is a great idea in theory.
3not to mention, you're more likely not to blow money on stuff if you have someone to be accountable to
i think, in a lot of cases, this person could be a boyfriend or husband...i know since my bf and i have been discussing moving in together/buying a condo in the near future i haven't been blowing money like i normally do
4I have a saving bubby. We are in a "Susu", Im not sure if anyone is familiar with it but its a GREAT way to save money. I've been in it for about two years now and its help me with my trip to Aruba this past summer and holiday shopping last december.
5no, martini, what is that?!?!
6My friends and I started a blog that we share or money saving tips with other friends and family. For example, I found out about a GREAT restaurant promotion today from my friend- just by reading our blog!
