The economy was a huge issue throughout the 2008 Presidential campaigns and is one of the primary concerns for President Elect Barack Obama. CNN polled voters and 62 percent of respondents said the economy is their number one concern. Do you think Obama will be able to positively impact the US economy?

i know that the majority spoke saying that he is the right guy for the job, but i'm still unsure on whether or not we'll see success with the economy. granted it can't really get that much worse - so we can only hope for the best here, and i'm going to put my faith in him and his advisers on this one.
1Well, our hope is that it will improve once he's in office. But we have to remember this is something wthat on't happen overnight so we must be patient.
2I hope so.
3Certainly not immediately; we're too far down the rabbit hole for any turn-around to happen quickly. I hope that most Americans understand that.
However, I do think Obama will help lead the economy to a healthier and more steady place over time. I think his will be the first administration who has the forsight to realize that the US could really stand to grow from creating new jobs in green industries.
4In time, he will. There is renewed faith in America from those here at home and those abroad.
It's a beautiful day...
5when you raise taxes people stop spending and lose jobs.
So I'm going with "No."
But I sure do hope I'm wrong.
6Absolutely not. He will do the exact opposite. He will raise your taxes. He will raise your taxes. He will raise your taxes! Make no mistake about that. He will tax the hell out of small business and force them into his health plan and as a result they will have to fire people and not be able to flourish. The economy will get much worse on his watch, not better. I just want to say thank you to all the liberals that have now made it possible for my hard earned money to be given to people who didn't earn it.
7I believe so.
8gotta agree with syako and kh... i think america might be regretting this decision.

10I am sincerely concerned that he does not understand the value of small business. His plan to eliminate small biz tax breaks is going to hurt the economy! More job creation comes from small biz than big biz, but paying more in taxes will slow that down. And in a time where we have such levels of unemployment, I don't think he'll understand what the impact will be.
11Also, we'll see how well his promises hold up once he actually takes office.
I'm glad to see such a true family man in office, I just wonder how ready he is to take the reins... it won't be as easy as "yes we can".
If paying higher taxes is patriotic and it's OK for a bloated, overgrown federal government to take even more hard-earned money out of our pockets, NO that isn't good for the economy!!!
12I'm going with a confident Yes. And I'm so glad to see the vast majority in agreement
13I think he'll positively impact the economy, yes!
I don't regret the decision I made for President, and I don't think America will, either. If anything, there's going to be a LOT of carryover from our current situation from our CURRENT president into his term, and people may mistakenly blame Obama for things that he didn't create.
I also realize that our economic situation is made up of a LOT of factors, some that Obama [or any president] won't have ANY control over.
14i think the economy is much too complex and dynamic for any one man to take the blame for its failures or the credit for its successes. however, i find that his plan to raise is rather counterintuitive.
15I think he needs to really think about following T. Boone Pickens plan and then that would really create new jobs while helping the economy. And the energy crisis. I really feel we need to keep all things american rt now. As far a wallstreet goes screw them crooks those people need to go to jail like they did to old martha!!!!!!!
16Obama has no experience with the economy. He will get economic advisers that have much more experience than he does to help him but in the long run, the market will have to take care of itself like it always has. It is delusional to think a president has all of the power to correct the huge problem before us and that government intervention will make things better. Increasing taxes at this time will just be a bigger disaster than what the country is facing. I want to believe he can help but I don't think he has a clear understanding of the fix anymore than most of us.
17The steps needed to repair the economy are already being taken. It takes time for the rate cuts, capital injections, etc. to work there way in and produce visible results. He of course will take full credit for the improved economy as if it was his own doing.
18What the f*ck happened to faith and hope. I hate whinny ass people. The man is a leader not a follower like McCain and Sarah Palin is a joke.
19Leftist Obama doesn't have a clue. History dictates that "spreading the wealth" by taxing businesses and income earners only serves to do two things - it decreases the disposable income that people have to inject into the economy through the purchase of goods and services and cause the left to cling to the Liberals. Maybe I should just walk down the street a few blocks to my upper class neighbor, introduce myself as a middle class person that is, under Obama's administration, entitled to the wealth that he EARNS. (As long as it doesn't put me in Obama's wealthy class)That way I can just skate through life and not worry about a thing.
20I think that his idea of increasing taxes are the direct opposite of what HE SAYS we need to do to stimulate the economy. Was this not the guy she supported the last round of tax stimulus checks and said that we need to do another to stimulate the economy? This was done to put money INTO circulation to stimulate the economy. But his platform is to INCREASE taxes and REMOVE money from the economy.
21Now I might not be to bright, but if you put money INTO circulation to increase the economy, would increasing taxes and REMOVING money from circulation HURT the economy?
Bottom line: This man has promised us higher gas prices, higher electricity prices, higher home heating oil prices, higher taxes...so how on earth CAN he help the economy? He won't-he will do his dead level best to destroy it!
He will certainly NOT help this economy. With Obama increased socialism is what we have in store. Redistribution of wealth is not only not helpful it is criminal. Why will anyone want to strive for more when their hard earned money will be doled out to some social program? We are headed toward an even larger welfare state. It is VERY sad. The 700 billion dollar bailout is one more example of how the government is taking over more and more private industry. If you want to learn more.....check out economist Murray Rothbard on YouTube. His lectures will be a HUGE wake-up call. This nation is in for a huge change and it will not be for the better. I struggle from paycheck to paycheck like so many do, but there is no way that I want the government handing me the hard earned money that someone else has worked for.
22For those of you who think things could not be worse you should look at the economy that existed when Jimmy Carter was President. Interest rates were over 15%, unemployment was over12%, Inflation was 18%. Remember he raised taxes too which got us into the mess he (Carter) created. The only thing that saved the economy was President Reagan and the tax cuts he made to revive the economy.
Europe has very taxes and also has high unemployment, high inflation and the people live at a much lower standard of living than we do in the USA.
Things may not be the best now but if Obama gets his plans through they will be a lot worse
23Obama's not inheriting a good economy, but a lot of the foundation for the problems was laid by Democrats in years past (like the Community Redevelopment Act).
The only way he can keep any of his campaign promises is by raising taxes. Penalizing productive members of society is a strong disincentive, and will reduce business growth and investment. Then the economy will continue to spiral down the drain.
Remember, this is a fellow who never, to the best of my knowledge, held a job in private industry.
24As a small business owner I have my doubts. I am very concerned about his plans which target small businesses and people in higher income brackets. I suspect the marginal tax rate is going to go up and my business is going to be affected.
25I don't see the fuss, why are we still debating about Obama being president. He is our president. There is nothing we can do to change that.
26I think Obama can only help our economy, he started to work the day after he was elected. Bush put the country into 2 wars an economic recession, when we had a surplus when he took office and took more vacation days than any president before him, guess that could be a good thing, gave him less time to mess things up. As far as taxes go the burden shouldn't just be carried by middle income people, if you make more money than you should pay your share of taxes, including business owners. Let's not forget the Bailouts Bush Gave A.I.G. we all seen how that went. Obama wants to loans not give freebies. Why should Big Business get bailed out. While familys lose their homes.
