I was shocked back in July when 62 percent of you said that you knew someone who had lost a job this year, because at the time I personally didn't know anyone that had suffered a job loss in 2008. The job market has worsened swiftly since the crazy events of this Fall and, unfortunately, I now know many people who have lost their jobs. The change in perspective has me wondering, do you know anyone who has been affected with job loss since September rolled around?

Yes, I know of about 16 people who lost their job in September and even 5 that has since lost their job since October. It is becoming harder and harder for people. The 6 month to a year emergency fund is really being used with people out of work looking for a jobs. I have several people who are looking out of state and out of the country just so they can find a job.
1I don't know anybody yet. But, this is all such a sad situation.
2i recently lost my job. it's very stressful, but this is why it's important to save money.
3I am sorry linditamaria, I hope you find something.
4Yeah, I just found out my stepfather did b/c no one is hiring master electricians b/c no one is building any new buildings!
5I know 4 people who lost their jobs recently and 1 person who hasn't been able to find a job since we left grad school at the end of 2007. A lot of folks are going through rough times.
6The company I work for does manufacturing and we've laid off about 75 people so far. My office is just marketing, but we even lost 2 employees last week, which was very difficult because we're just a small office. It's getting tough out there.
7Its so sad but one of my close friends just got laid off on Tuesday
I feel so bad for her
because I know its going to be hard to find something else.
8One of them is me and I also have 3 other friends that have lost their jobs. I am completely freaked out.
9being in NYC - there were some of the most noticed layoffs ever and i do know a few people that suffered from this one. it's really sad to think that the economy is hitting so close to home.
10I am considering moving back to NYC but right now might not be the best time. Does anyone need an apparel developer/sourcing analyst?
11I thankfully don't - there hasn't been that many layoffs in WA - I personally changed jobs but I went right from one to anouther. A friend of mine was quit one job and puprosely didn't start looking for anouther for 6 weeks.
12We are having a company meeting tomorrow which they will advise of staff layoffs and office closures. We have already lost a handful (that i know of) of our engineering staff in the US offices (we are UK). Our office is relatively secure as we are in the middle of a very large project. once that is finalised next year though, who knows.
Besides, im a temp, so I can go without notice
Unlike the lucky employees who get made
redundant!
13Lay offs here next week so after Tuesday I will definitely know people who lost their jobs and potentially lose my job as well!
14I thankfully do not know of anyone in my circle that has lost a job recently.
15Me.
16My flatmate, on Tuesday.
She's in building archeology, and they don't get any contracts at the
moment because of the credit crunch - it's really sad, she'll have to go back home at the end of the month cause she can't get any other job.
17We had a redundancy party for her a few days ago - we sang 'happy redundancy to you', and got her a cake that had 'P45' in chocolate chips on it (it's the form you get in the UK when you leave a job).
Thankfully, I don't know of anyone. DC is one of the cities that hasn't been hit too badly because no matter how bad the economy is, the federal government doesn't really downsize.
18me. and it stinks.
