Halloween doesn't have to be expensive, but as we get older it's harder to come up with a fabulous costume that doesn't involve spending money. There's always the option of recycling last year's attire to save, though dressing up isn't as fun when your outfit is expected. And, no, this Starbucks "looking for work" costume is not what I'm wearing. Did you shell out cash this year for your Halloween costume?

So far I've only spent $6 on fabric and I plan on sewing my costume tonight. I may need to pick up a basic tee which I could probably get for cheap (and re-wear on other days), and I'm gonna try some spray-in hair color. Total cost for this year should come to $10-20.
Last year my costume had lots of trim and accessories, so it ended up being pricier, but still about the same as a decent, pre-packaged adult costume. I definitely think half the fun is in the hunt/construction of your own costume
1Nope! Nothing!
2Woot woot!!!
nothing for me, but I spent a few dollars turning my dog into the cookie monster
3I spent about $50 and my boyfriend spent about $80, I think. But we love dressing up for Halloween so it's well worth it!
4I'm throwing my costume together tomorrow. I've estimated spending 15 bucks and everything will be reusable. Not too bad!
5I only spend 3 bucks for a pair of red socks, and a dollar for yellow ribbon
6Here is what I am going to wear this for my workout this Friday:-
A fitted blue workout shirt (from Under Armour)
A red running skirt
I print out a BIG "S" logo for Supergirl
The yellow ribbon will go around my waist as a belt
I will wear the red socks along with the red/silver sneakers
nope. I used my 15 yr old sister's costume from last year to my bf's halloween party this past weekend... good times, good times. lol
7Actually I work at a store that sells Halloween costumes and so I get to wear different costumes everyday that I work. And i'm probably going to work for Halloween so I didn't see a point in buying a costume.
8I bought one cause I know I would never make one. Its worth the $50 bucks.
9I've never dressed up. Frankly, im turned off by the sexy outfits for women. A little originality doesn't hurt.
10I like making my own costume. I can't sew, but I like to mix and match things that I have/can buy for cheap and come up with something cool. This year, I'm going as Indiana Jones! I have the hat and the whip from when we went to Disneyland last year (no idea WHY I bought this, haha), and I'm just pairing it with some cords, a white tank-top and brown boots.
I think it's kind of silly to go all-out for a Halloween costume (cost-wise). The store-bought ones usually suck anyways.
11I am going as Juno with the basics. Skinny Jeans, an orange stripe hoodie I am wearing under my everyday green hoodie. I have a pair of black flat sneakers and today at Old Navy, I found a cotton miniskirt you would wear to the pool that I am wearing over my jeans like in the movie. All I need is a big round pillow and my costume is complete:)
At work I am going as a kitty with the basic $1 kitty mask and eyeliner whiskers. I LOVE bella's idea for the LOLCATZ but no one at work knows that but me so I am just keeping it traditional with a nice orange shirt and black skirt. I am def posting the pics up on my looks page, so please comment
12I bought 2 costumes from Trashy Lingerie and a few separate pieces to make a costume that I'm actually going to make and wear. I'm a costume junkie:)
13I made my Halloween costume this year, but I had to buy most of the pieces for it (eBay, Payless, and Michael's). Though, I can definitely use the shoes as everyday wear.
14I spent $13 for a long-sleeved black dress at Forever 21 to do a Wednesday Addams costume. Everything else (black tights, shoes, braided hair, white collared shirt for layering) I already had!
15I handmade everything for my costume except my shoes and shorts to wear under my skirt. It's the most intense I've ever done, but I'm really proud of it.
16Not this year... that's because I've got mountains of homework to do this weekend and I'm not going out. In the past I've always spent money even when I pledge I won't again this year.
17I spent $5 on tights. I'm going as a secretary that's having an affair with her boss. So I'm just going to wear my usual work clothes, but I'm going to button my shirt wrong, have some of my shirt untucked from my skirt, and mess up my hair and make up.
18Yup. So far I have only spent $4 on my mask. I have everything else in my closet already.
19My friend lent me her costume from last year. All I had to do was buy leggings and heels. Which, I got BCBG heels on sale for $30! I was stoked, and I've already worn them
20Not spending any money this year. I am just going to stay home and hand out candy to the kids in the neighborhood.
21nope - i haven't dressed up for halloween in a LONG time so this time around is no exception.
22not dressing up for halloween here, either. More $$ in my pocket!
23I planned on spending only $40 but now I'm up to $70 with the accessories.
24Just a wig, plus now I need one of those adhesive-cup backless gel bra thingies. But that's it! I even already have all the jewelry I'm wearing
woohoooooo cheapo halloween
25Nope. I haven't spent a dime yet but I'm sure I will.
26i think it's good to spend money on halloween if you have plans. if not, what's the point. i'm still trying to figure what to do, with halloween tomorrow, go to berkeley tomorrow to see what i can rummage up.
27i'm just gonna throw on my bf's construction uniform shirt, belt it, and wear it as a shirtdress. lol. done and done.
28I def. spent $100 on mine. Store bought. I am a tall girl so and I am not a sewer so I figured I would just buy and be done with it. I am happy with it and will re-use it eventually.
