9 Ways to Save Time and Be More Productive
Block Out Time For Emails
If receiving emails every two minutes distracts you from a more important project shut down your email program and set aside 10 minutes every half hour to check your inbox for urgent emails. All the rest can be handled during a special time you've blocked out for email replies.
If you have Gmail and get distracting personal emails go in to your Gmail settings (the “Labs” tab) and enable the “Email Addict” feature, which will prompt you to take a break — or stay away.

Haha, this is awesome. I am so enabling it. Wish the Mac email program had it!
1I totally do this! I block out, if possible, an hour and a half at the start and end of my work day strictly for emails and getting tasks done, that I can't get to during the day because of all day meetings. It's set up as a recurring calendar entry so most of my colleagues avoid scheduling a meeting with me then.
