Most of our retirement dreams revolve around a lot of R and R, but 88-year-old Rosie Donaghey came out of her retirement at age 70 to work as a waitress. This golden girl reentered the workforce after her husband passed away in 1994, and now has a loyal customer following that appreciates her wit and wisecracks. She currently works at the Wicked Wolf restaurant in East Bronx, NY, where she's locally famous for saying things like, "I'd rather be shot than eat clams."
Rosie says that working isn't a necessity for her financially, but it's apparent that the job means just as much to her as it does to the customers that love her. Going after what we want doesn't ever have to end! She also has some advice for anyone striving to be a great waitress: "Be pleasant, and let them take their pick of tables." She later added, "I guess it's the blarney."
Her last statement rings true in many professions — the gift of gab can go a long way.

I have a friend who retired 14 yrs ago & joined the Peace Corps.at age 70. They didn't quite know what to do with someone her age so she had to show them. She was assigned to the country of Slovakia where she helped build a playground, finding the funding for it, etc. Then she found funding to referbish a Jewish cemetary & help a Jewish community claim it's identity & heritage. She is now 84 & still going strong. It is never too late to be productive & follow dreams.

2i read about this yesterday in citizen i think - and it's really nice to see that some people actually enjoy being in the service industry. it's also great that she doesn't HAVE to work but that she chooses to work. i know that we've all been to many restaurants where the service has just been plain awful and in this case, you know that she's going to be pleasant, remember who you are and that's something that we're missing out on these days.
3What a great story!!! (Both Savvy and proudmom) There is a billboard in my city that has a pic of a 81 year old lady with a commencement cap and gown on that says "oldest graduate", and she has the biggest smile! I love that billboard! I hope I am going as strong as these wonderful ladies when I'm their age!
