Not that there's any sign of the economy swinging anywhere but down in the near future, but when 82 percent of you said you've been more mindful of your money recently, it made me wonder if your heightened consciousness would stick around if things improved.

Will your new money habits become permanent, or do you think the purse strings will loosen back up once we have a healthier economy?

Both my husband and I are in graduate school, so we're always trying to save money regardless of what is going on in the economy. Luckily, that habit has kept is from feeling a lot of additional pinches this time around.
1I've always been mindful of my money, even when the economy was good and things were great. So yeah, my habits are here to stay.
2Yeah, I do feel I've learned a lot of lessons that I'll stick to even when things are better.
3I've always been a saver. I don't think the economic downturn made me that way, but I have learned a few things as a result that I'm pretty sure I'll continue even after things pick up.
4i think that i would stick with the habits that i'm adapting because i'm learning more and more that there's a lot of sense in it. just because you are able to do more with your money doesn't mean that you should if you don't have to - and that's something to remember even when you're in a better place or win the lottery.
5I really don't have a choice as to whether or not I can continue being a penny pincher-I have stopped myself many times just this week, from making unecessary purchases...and it feels so good! I am tired of having credit card debt and want to pay it off ASAP.
6Yes, we want to build a deposit for a house purchase so we can better our situation, so we wont have a choice.
7After scaling back in an effort to save up money for a house, even though we've been unable to close a deal yet, and it looks like we might take a break from looking for a while, I'll still try to keep up the good habits. It really is amazing how much we spend on things we don't really need. Once you've gone without those things (and survived), it's easier to admit to yourself that you can go without them peranently.
But the bottom line for me REALLY is - as long as I stay out of the mall and away from temptation, that's when it's easiest for me to save money!
8I have definitely learned lesson and am so much more aware of what I am doing with my money!
9I'm learning too. Although the lesson was brought on not so much by the economic situation, but more at my husband's urgency at getting me to be more mindful of spending in general. And, yes, I do think they will "stick"
10I still need to work on improving my habits. I'm really trying, I swear!
11I've always been a saver but I have proven more that I can go even further than I was doing.
12Sometimes they do, sometimes not. It's my husband I have to stay after when we're doing well financially. ..Me, I would split a piece of gum in half just to make ends meet or to afford something nice for my family!
