According to new poll results from Reuters, this year's holiday season may not mean breaking budgets in the spirit of giving. In fact, more than 44 percent of people surveyed plan on spending slightly less or a lot less on gifts compared to what they spent last year. Are you planning on paring back your holiday shopping budget this year?

Yes, I'm spending much less this year and limiting the number of gifts each person gets.
1I am too!
2I don't even think my bf and I are getting presents for each other this year cuz we REALLY want to go on a trip...
I am limiting myself to one gift for the BF and one for the holiday exchange at work.
3i'll cut back a bit on those sort of not neccisary gifts for people that aren't that close, but I'll stay about the same for loved ones. My bf and I might cut back on each other since we're trying to buy a house
4Well considering all I bought last year was a train ride up to the mountains for a weekend for my and my lovah, I do plan to spend a bit more. Not that the trip wasn't cheap, but it was the only gift I had bought. I just got a new job so it would be nice to be able to buy people some nifty things that only I would find.
5I am spending less, I never spend that much anyway but especially this year, I just want to be with everyone. It's been so hard for people this year and it will get harder for people during the holiday season especially if they are out of work.
Instead of doing gift exchanges, I am going to pitch an idea to adopt a family as a group - I don't need anything and I would rather my gifts go to someone else.
6Yes I am. I need to save as much as I possibly can since I plan on buying a condo next year.
Cousins arent getting anything. Friends may not get anything either...Fiance maybe getting a homemade card. Parents! They will be getting gifts, they're awesome!
7I will spend the same on everyone except my husband. we're cutting back on gifts for each other and just spending more time with each other to commemorate special days (I took the day off for our anniversary and we bought each other gifts costing $40-90, rather than expensive jewelry or something like that.) I always send fresh balsam wreaths to friends and family, then get additional gifts for parents and siblings.
8Law, that is so romantic.
9bella, you know what we did on our anniversary? went to the ZOO! then out to a nice dinner
It was awesome.
I love your idea of adopting a family for Christmas. like the Angel Tree but for a whole family!
10Its slim pickings this year. Of course the kids in my extended family will get something, and thankfully another of the cousins just hit 18, so thats one to cross off the list. My family does a secret santa so that helps a bunch.
My honey has already stated she doesn't want gifts, so that helps too.
11Im limiting my generosity. or maybe just how many ppl I buy gifts for...
12I'm careful every year with gifts and this year will be no exception. I don't really plan on cutting back, just continuing my effort to stay in my budget.
13This year, my family is giving the gift of TIME (nieces and nephews will get presents though). We will rent a few cabins in the summer and spend time together. Obviously this will cost money, but who NEEDS a new sweater anyway?
14For the last few years I only buy for my immediate famliy. I cut out my cousins and their kids a long time ago. I am not close to them and I would rather spend the money on people that are close to me.
15i'm spending more this year than normal. i got a full-time permanent job which i didnt have last year, and am making almost 10K more than ever before, so i will bulk up the gifts for my brother, sister, and parents...not sure about my bf yet...depends on what we decide! maybe we'll take a trip instead!
16My family has always been very gift-lite at christmas. The focus of christmas has always been enjoying our time together. My husband's family however keeps the economy afloat for a good 6 months of the year with the amount they spend. Since we've been together I've gone along with all the hoopla but this year I'm putting my foot down and enjoying the holidays without going broke. And if his cousins get offended that we're not sending their 1-year-old a gift, oh well.
17I am buying presents this year but am spending alot less on each gift. Shopping on sales and clearance racks.
18I'm spending less and I already was going to. We all have our needs taken care of already...why should we go into debt to give others more STUFF???
19No, I set aside a budget just for the holiday season, and once it's gone, it's gone. No more gifts!
20The same. I bought 7 gifts at bath and body works when they had a semi-annual clearance back in April? May? whenever stuff was $3 a bottle lol. I went nuts but took care of almost all the women in my life.
And, I always pick an unsuspecting "victim" and buy them a gift and leave it anonymously. It's just fun and Christmasy.
21I really need to save money. I hate shopping for gifts anyway. Immediate family will only be getting gifts!
22I'll probably spend the same or maybe less. It won't be because of budgets. It will be because everyone I know has everything they want and so do I.
23I will be spended much less money this year as I have decided to handmake all of my Christmas gifts. I have taken up knitting and crochet so that I can handmake something nice for everyone.
24I'm probably not spending too much less. I will probably try to convince bf to not exchange gifts to save money for a ski trip! Although even when we promise not to get anything he ALWAYS gets me something! Grrr!! In my family we all go in on gifts together. Adults are lucky if they get three gifts. And that is perfectly fine with me! In bf's family it's gift after gift after gift... So I let HIM pay for the gifts for his family!
25i don't know what the plan is for this year to be honest. last year my fiance and i bought my mom a flat screen tv for the holidays and i don't think that we're going to get anything nearly that impressive for her this year since we're all on a budget. we also got my brother (one of my brothers) a nice monitor for his computer, but i think that this year we're going to scale back a bit and if we do gifts, we'll keep it within reason. neither of us have a lot of extra money to spend and it's hard to do it sometimes since we don't go the credit card route.
26immediate family: mom, dad, my brother and sister...and of course, my boyfriend. maybe something for his parents...
27I will spend the same as last year, nothing! I have not been able to afford Christmas for the past 3-4 years really, so we have stopped buying gifts. It's so nice, my family understands and besides we are all adults and buy what we need when we need it.
28I don't buy lot of stuff usually so it won't be a big change, but I am planing on spending a bit less.
29i always go over board for the holidays, but not this year. I plan on shopping early and being done before december even starts, to avoid the holiday spirit impulse gifts. I actually already have two!!
30I have been trying to cull back the amount of gifts I buy for a couple of years now. Not so much because of the economy, but because a few, well-thought-out gifts are nicer than a ton of whatever. I stick to my close family {there are eight of us} and then everyone else I care for gets a card, usually with something fun inside {stickers, temporary tattoo, flat magnet, etc}. Having fewer gifts to give also sets a good stage for taking more care with the wrapping. It's a lot easier to justify buying nicer paper and real ribbon instead of the plastic bows when you have less than 20 gifts to wrap.
31With this horrible economy, I am DEFINITELY reducing my spending. This year, I am limiting the big gifts for just my family. For close friends, I am actually buy spending a few dollars on naming land after them...kind of the same concept of naming a star, etc. http://www.ownapieceofamerica.us/UnusualandUniqueChristmasPresentsandGif...
