The majority of you check your online account every day and should be pretty familiar with the balance in your bank account. Sometimes it can be painful to look at, but we all need to face the facts sooner or later! Do you know the exact balance or do you have a general estimate of how much cash is available?

Two times out of three, I know the exact amount, but I don't obsess over it or watch it like a hawk. There are so many other things I would rather do than stress about that number when I don't really need to right now.
I check my account online about once daily, so I know, roughly, the dollar amount.
I definitely don't know the exact amount of my main checking account especially now that I've paid some bills, but I usually have a rough estimate. I definitely know I'm not going to be overdrawn.
I check mine about once a day too.
I usualyl riound it DOWN to the nearest $50 tho...like $350, $400, $450, etc!
I don't know the exact dollar and cent value, but I know, pretty much at all times, the amount rounded up or down to the nearest $5 value.
Nope. My husband deals with the $$$.
I know the exact amount - I check mine numerous times a day. I, also, have a portfolio component with my checking that allows me to view every account that I have and that is tied in with my checking account.
I have various accounts and I check them everyday so I know the exact amount.
No clue. I know about how much is in there...I have to tell my hubby when he can and cannot spend money. Maybe that's why I was .01 cent over last month...
Seriously. 1 CENT. I had to pay a $10 fee.
I work in accounting so it is customary to check numbers all day, especially my own.
After playing the "Call Wachovia and check the ATM for my balance game," I started balancing my checkbook to the point of obsession. Every receipt is logged within an hour of using my card so I can have an up-to-date knowledge of how much money I really have. With the pending balance and the available balance being so deceiving, it is so important to know how much you really have. If I write a check I write it down, if i have a bill that takes a few days to go through but will go through, I write it down early. Every payday, I head to my ledger, enter my paycheck and then diligently write down all the bills for that pay period and then I use that amount for shopping. Sometimes it can be a whole week before Discover's payment hits my account, so if I were to go by the available balance I would be screwed and the lovely NSF fairy would charge me $30 for each transaction. I am not doing that again!
I check my account every morning. I know how much is in there and I always round the account down when I am thinking about buying something.
I immediately write any deposits or checks written in my checkbook register calculate the balance. I check that against my online banking once a week. If it doesn't match, I go back over it and make corrections until it does.
I check my main checking account about once or twice a month, so I know roughly what is in there. And I always UNDER estimate on purpose it so I never am overdrawn. My other accounts I check less frequently b/c I like to feel surprised by how much money is them, like wow I saved that much! If I checked them all time it would seem like they were growing at a snails pace, and that would frustrate me.
every time I use my debit card I check my account balance.
I don't know the EXACT amount down the penny, but I always know within about +/- $20 (as well as the balance on my credit card) because I DO watch my bank account online like a hawk and am always mindful of spending. I don't understand how NOT knowing doesn't drive some people crazy!
I know, because I have to. Moneys tight, and if I've got an extra £1 to spend on lunch that week or petrol its a bonus - i work it all out in my head and check it about once a week.
Emsmiley and hippiecowgirl, you guys are awesome! There is so much comfort in balancing your checkbook and knowing EXACTLY how much money you have. It's the best thing you can do for yourself finacially. Keep up the good work girls!!!
I pay no attention. I check balances and scan transactions once a month to make sure everything is in line, but other than that I'm just too lazy.
To the dollar, usually.
I check my accounts daily, and I try to use debit because the money comes directly out.
I don't know the exact amount to every last cent but I usually know the amount rounded to the closest 5$
i know a pretty decent estimate of how much i have but i don't know the exact number. i'm always going online to make sure that i know what all the charges are and to see what's going on, but the exact number usually slips my mind.
money's tight so my bank account is checked every morning online. i do get overdrawn every now and again so i have to watch my bank charges carefully because those are the only amounts that fluctuate monthly. my husband handles things like rent and petrol and i handle the food and creche fees. we're ok here in south africa but we have had to tighten our belts like everyone else i suppose.
I know how much is in there all the time. Which my balance being so low, even simple purchases can cause a problem. Its exciting being a poor student.
I ALWAYS check my account. I'm always planning and rewriting my budgets. So I need to know how much I have. Even at 3 in the morning. Plus, I had a bit of a snag a few months ago. Some company was pulling money out of my account monthly and I didn't know because I wasn't checking my balance as often as I should have. I finally got it when my account of overdrawn by them. I'm a hawk!
I check twice daily. I know my numbers!
i'm like hippiecowgirl. i keep my checkbook with me and write down everything. my online is so much slower that if i don't keep up with it myself, i get lost and spend too much or go hungry.
I check my account online daily. While I don't write down anything like some above, i do remember, and i will quickly write down my balance, the total from my online bill pay section, subtract any outstanding amounts that aren't in my account yet and have a balance haha. drives my fiance nuts as he writes everything down and keeps a very balanced checkbook. as i don't use checks (1 a month for rent) it doesn't make sense for me to do that.
