Debit cards have made it possible for many of us to leave our checkbooks at home — one less thing to carry around! And when it comes to paying bills, online banking has made much of our financial lives predominantly paperless. How often do you write checks?

No checks for me, everything is either done online or with my debit card...
1I only write cheques to pay for rent
2Even when I had to pay rent, My bank (BofA) offers billpay service and if they don't have an electronic way of paying they will mail the check...
3I think the last time I wrote a check was in July. I do balance my checkbook regularly though so I could easily look up when I last wrote one.
4Mine has an electronic way too, but I pefere just giving it to the landlord myself
That, and, I am not very technologically advanced
5Since, I discovered bill pay. I haven't written a check in year and half. I have been doing everything electronic.
6Rent. That's it.
I understand that a lot of people do still use checks to pay bills, but for the life of me I do not understand people who still use checks to pay at the supermarket when every damn checking account in the world comes with a Visa or Mastercard debit card. And I always end up in line behind those people.

@ Jude. Jude, maybe its b/c they don't have money in the bank and
they still believe it takes 3 days to clear.
8I have suspected that!
9I only write one for rent. Almost everything else I pay on-line. I would pay my rent on-line but my management company uses a service that charges to pay on-line if your going to charge me I am not going to do it plus I am too lazy to add it to my BofA account!
10I can't even tell you the last time I wrote a check! I don't even pocess any checks! It's my check card or cash. I call in or pay online for most all of my bills and purchase with cash or check card.
11I only write them for rent.
12there are just a few things that i HAVE to write checks for each month - my rent and my home owners association fee for my condo - but otherwise, i really prefer to take care of things online. i think that i'm better able to manage my payments and when they are made if i'm able to pay online or over the phone. i just have this fear of someone intercepting checks and then they get my banking information and it makes me nervous
13Never - we no longer use them in Finland. The last check I saw was from the UK, when I was refunded for some taxes after I left for Europe.
Finland was one of the first countries in the world to go 100% electronic with ATMS and banking - so online banking, ATM/debit cards and debit/credit cards are in full force here. Checks aren't needed.
I think kind of like bella says above checks used to be the "write it a day before you get paid and its all good" thing that probably all of us have done at some point, but doing that is risky and at the end of the day I prefer knowing that the balance I see online is THE balance, and not waiting for ninja-sniper checks that have sat in someone's drawer for 2 months to suddenly be cashed.
14I only write two checks a month. One for my car loan (I don't understand why they don't have online bill pay yet) and the second is for my son's school tuition.
15Rent and electric only. Everything else is auto-pay.
16the last time i wrote a check was for a speeding ticket. they charge you if you use your card to pay.
checks cost money to order at my bank. why should i bother when almost everyplace takes a card?
17I write a check to the Schwans man and to the pest control man. and any school related items (scholastic book orders, fees for theater etc.) for the children. It's less than 5 checks a month.. average is 2 checks a month.
18Rent. But my mom writes checks for EVERYTHING.
19Just to pay rent. Nowadays you really cant float a check.
I have had the same box of checks now for 4 years!
20My rent and credit card bill are paid with a check. I pay my cell phone bill over the phone, for some reason I don't like the idea of online bill pay, even though you are more likely to get your identity stolen by paper than electronically. I do know that once you get automatic debits it's very hard to stop. Working at a bank I don't know how many people have come in asking us to stop an autmatic debit and we can't, the only option being closing the account and opening a new one which is such a hassle.
21Rent, utilities and when I want to give $ as a gift.
22i didn't even remember i had cheques until the other day when i happened to be cleaning my purse
23You know those commercials where everyone is just zippin through the checkout until someone busts out a checkbook and everything slows down? that is just the truest thing ever. Why are people still using checks like that? is it habit? easier to keep track of? in this day and age, its very archaic indeed.
Yesterday at grocery store lady ahead of me , writing a check, TOOK FOREVER!!!!!!!
24Daycare and softball...that's about it.
25I write checks to pay rent and my credit card bill.
