Yes.. I fell into a cushy but not at all what I wanted to do with my life job right out of school. I left it two years later in order to go back to college to get the training i needed for the career i have now.

No I kind of fell into it I enjoy what I currently do. But it is far different than what I went to school for. Nevertheless, I don't complain about these things because life has a way of doing things. I when to school for media got a job in media and HATED it so I went back to my just out of college position at a different company.

I have yet to see. I'm going to college now to be a Criminal Psychologist hopefully I will stick with it.

well - i think that i kind of fell into my job as a result of the people that i surrounded myself with. i used to work in fashion and music and then when i moved i needed to find a real job, and well...2 of my exes worked in advertising, so alas - that's where i ended up. it's interesting how that happened though. 2 people that i don't even care much for anymore - or even respect - they all liked their jobs, so now i do something very similar.

I went to school for advertising and work in advertising. The job I have now is not the one I was initially hired for, but it is absolutely the job I wanted.

I started school as a Business Admin major (I still can't explain what that means). I constantly kept gravitating towards graphic design work (when I chose it, I couldn't explain what a graphic designer did and didn't do). So I chose it, stumbled my way through, and now am pro and love it.

I went to art school and then to film school, and now I work in web design and development, which is also what I did to pay for my tuition. It's hard for me to say if I really intended to keep doing web stuff as a career, but I don't mind it for now.

I was not very intentional, I guess you could say. Not to showw off or anything (LOL) but I usually can type from 90-100 WPM and when I first stated applying for jobs I was going for Secretary/Receptionist type positions that wouldn't hire me because of my "lack of experience." One day it "clicked" and I thought, "Why don't I apply for DATA ENTRY jobs?" Needless to say, I got hired almost instantly and now I'm actually working in the Medical Field in a better job processing orders. It's funny how life works

I chose my education path, but I sort of fell into my career path via a temporary job. Luckily my bosses try to tailor what I do to what I've studied.

I completely F-E-L-L into my job. It is fabulous...not the creative tasked job I need in my life, but it pays the bills and then some. So I have learned to love the job b.c. it allows me to enjoy life without bill stressin'.

Not directly... I have always had an interest in higher education. I almost went the PhD route, but ended up with a MA and went to work for a university library. Now I'm finishing up graduate school in library science. I'm hoping to put both of my graduate degrees to work in an academic library in the near future.

I decided what I wanted to do my junior year of high school and worked towards that goal through college and grad school. And now I have that career.

The semester I took Bacteriology I knew I wanted to be a Microbiologist. So pretty much from then on I knew.

I was fascinated by that philosophy - that statement and a few other scenes in that episode really got me thinking about my approach to life and work.

Anyway. I wouldn't say I was that calculated in choosing my career. I knew I was good with words and I stumbled on journalism as something people who were good with words did. My college program was known for educating newspaper journalists, so that's what I did - though I was a copy editor rather than a reporter, and I see now that my choice kept me close to the thing I was good at. Then I started hating my job and I took the first one I could find; now I work in custom publishing, so still working with words but not exactly journalism. And now I am starting to hate my job again, arrgh!

So I was sort of following a path but I wouldn't say I followed Bobbie's philosophy. I see that as more of "I want to do this job and the people who do it have this personality trait so I will change myself to be like that." I'm too neurotic to do that.

I knew what I wanted to do for my entire life, and today, I have that career. I'm SO grateful that circumstances allowed me to pursue my dream, because it definitely could have gone a different direction.

Not at all! I majored in Political Science and really wanted to work for a Lobby group or a think tank in DC. I ended up taking the first job I could find out of college at a spinal implant company (medical devices) it was a great job, but I left after 2 years to open a tanning salon with my sister. We did not work out very well as business partners and I cashed out, then I absolutely fell into my current job. Now, I write content for websites. I like it a lot, but it is contract work and some months are very lean...but I do get to work in my pj's! My resume must look like a complete mess! lol

Yes, I fell into my job. I was going to be a journalist at first, and then an engineer (but I sucked at Physics!)... I ended up being a receptionist/secretary and was promoted quite quickly now I'm in telecommunications project management and its great!

I had the opposite problem to Frenchh, as I also type fast (117wpm) but all they would put me forward for was data entry!!! They couldnt see past the typing to my skills. OH well they have now

I love reading these, they give me hope for my future. Sometimes I think everyone has everything figured out besides me. I graduate from college in December and have no clue what I am going to do after that!

I somehow am in a data processing position right now. I'll move to billing and then from there, probably to a different company. I want to do something creative and challenging in systems, but it's hard to pinpoint what that could exactly mean. Advertising?

After growing up being told I could not be an artist ("It's a hobby, not a job"), I aimlessly fell into lots of jobs and hated them. One day I finally worked up the nerve to do what I wanted to do in the first place, and what do you know, my first instinct was the right one (who says graphic design isn't a
job?). I can pick a job and just do it, but the question is, how miserable will it make me when I can't utilize my God-given talents and be at home with my own personality?
