Self-employment is a goal that many workers strive for: Setting your own hours, making the big decisions, and controlling your work life are appealing parts of being your own boss.
While those aspects excite some, the prospect of self-employment causes stress in others who would rather leave the risk taking to somebody else. Would you want to start a business and be accountable for its success or failure?

The only thing that stresses me out is the thought of all the paperwork and taxes and money it takes to start and maintain a business. I'd love to be my own boss!
1It is definitely a lot of work and stressful at times, but the benefits of being my own boss definitely outweigh the negatives.
2Although I have a (mostly) fun job, working for someone else kinda makes me feel like I'm always somebody's b*tch, so I love the idea of running my own business. On the other hand, I'm aware that it involves lots of hard work and risk. I'm trying to develop a business idea that I can start on a part-time basis, so if it doesn't take off I'd still have my job to fall back on.
3i always talk about having my own company and being my own boss. i think that if i could manage it - figure out how to draw enough revenue to make ends meet - and then it would be great. i think that if i could create a business plan to establish myself in a niche - and then have a staff - it would be great. we always talk about how there are things that we would do so differently if we were our own boss - and i think that i would actually have the means/guts to do that and make for a GREAT working environment.
4Being one's own boss? More like whoever comes trough the door being your boss. Still I think it would be great to work that way, much more room for learning and getting satisfaction out of one's decisions.
5I'm already my own boss. It's a little bit hard but nothing compared to the stress being around with people who think they know more about you and having your ideas just ignored by your boss.
6I wish, I can't narrow down my view yet of the business, I have half of a business plan.
7Hell yes! I'm working towards it right now and am on track to be my own boss within a year
I've always hated working for other people, to the point where I sort of think it's a character flaw. Like, I really hate working for other people.
8heck ya
9That's our plan! Brendan wants to open a jewelry business. He likes making it and I'd like to have a storefront. It'll take a while since it's such an expensive business but we'll get there
10I don't think I'm disciplined enough to be my own boss, but it would be great if I could make my own hours and work when I felt like it.
11I like BEING boss, but not being my own boss, if that makes sense. I dont mind having bosses above me, as long as im in charge of others.
sounds b*tchy but im a good boss i swear
That and I cant handle working from home. I get SO bored without others to talk to.
12gabiushka is right, it's like trading one boss for a whole bunch of bosses. And sometimes when business is slow I start to panic that I might have to go back to the job market someday and there'd be nothing on my resume for the recent times except for this long stint of being self-employed.
At the moment I'm drowning in paper work, but business is good. Ok, break over. Gotta go get back to work... Hee.
13I'm sure it would be difficult and scary at first, but being my own boss would be really awesome
Now, I just have to figure out what I want to do in my life!
