Workers on the CNN National Desk are embarking on a week long experiment working 10-hours a day four days a week. Utah has already introduced the four-day work week to its public employees, but by-the-clock public service jobs have much different requirements than a 24/7 news environment.
Most of the workers are optimistic about the experiment helping them save on gas and commuting time, but there is some concern about how the arrangement would affect scheduling in the unique news environment. Eighty-percent of you said that a four-day work week would suit you. Do you think your boss would go for an experiment of implementing the longer hours, less days schedule? Would it be worth a shot to ask?

I dunno...I jsut don't think I could do an extra 2 hours at work!
1I have enough time trying to fit in eating healthly, shopping, gym, puppy, boyfriend, family, school, and MY OWN PERSONAL TIME!!!!
I'm already on a 4 day schedule so we wouldn't need to try it out. He actually seems to prefer it this way and I love it because I get a long weekend and I can spend a whole day with my daughter.
2I would love to do that...but I don't think my boss would
3Ha! I work 12-14 hours/day, 6-7 days/week. Hell, I'd be THRILLED to work 10 hours/day, 5-6 days/week. Somebody try to convince my boss of that!
4Sadly, most people don't work for companies with flexible mindsets about things like that. I wish flexible hours were more accepted. Even though I am on "salary," I have very set hours that I can't change or leave early, even if I am more efficient at my job.
5my current department is thinking of trying out a four day work week, but if i were staying here, i'd still have to do a five day work week since i answer & screen phone calls. :/ but once i'm out of nursing school, it'll be three 12 hour days for me. i'd wayyy rahter have longer hours & fewer days at work.
6My office works off of a 2 week schedule. You work 9 hours for 9 days then you have 1 standard day off (STO). A lot of people like it, I just can't stand staying in the office for more than 8 hours at a time.
7A lot of people work for companies where this isn't possible...like the nightclub indusstry!
8or the financial industry- we need to be there when the stock market is open- so i'm stuck 5 days a week!
9or even just a general - work for a boss who demands weird things only you can do at all hours of the day/night - type job. Like me.
would love 4 day workweek, sometimes i can work from home all week and others i have to go in at weird hours. it all works out OK
10I asked, and got my wish with very little fuss
11A 4-day work week would never fly where I work. I'm expected to be here M-F 9-5.
12I'd just end up spending those three days totally exhausted from the 10 hour shifts.
13Sadly, when you're in Human Resources, you have to be here when everyone else is...
