Keeping your credit card close by can be temping on shopping trips. While I opt to simply leave mine at home when out for a day of browsing, ABC News Consumer Correspondent Elisabeth Leamy has a more dramatic solution for those who have trouble curbing credit card spending.
Leamy suggests placing your card in a container of water and putting it in the freezer, subsequently putting "your credit card spending on ice." If you need the card for an emergency, you'd just have to defrost the block of ice. Is her idea brilliant or baffling?

If you have THAT much trouble curbing spending, you shouldn't have a credit card to begin with, in my opinion.
1Wouldn't it just be easier to keep the thing in a drawer?
2just shred those darn things
3I think the theory behind this idea is good, because if you want to use the card you have to let it defrost, which gives you time to think about your intended purchase and avoid impulse buys.
4I just cut up the credit card.
5i've actually heard about this so many times and i think that it could be a great solution if you're not able to control your shopping. i always think that i'm going to forget that it's there and when i move even, i'll forget and that could be even worse.

....that just sounds silly to me...
7honestly. my parents did this after they finished paying them al off (they had like
and it
worked good for them!
8I feel like this is only worth doing when more desperate measures need to be taken against spending
But I guess it must work pretty well...this definitely isn't the first time I've heard of it.
9Since the urge to spend money you can pay later is a strong one, i agree with this.
10Great idea for those with no self control, but i just refuse to have one, its easier that way! if your desperate to pay it off, just cut it up! then you cant put more on it and with time it will be paid off.
11Seriously? Wouldn't that like destroy the card permanently or something?
12Oh man... this reminds me of a prank my brother did when he was younger. He took a cork, tied my dad's car keys to it and put both in a cup of water then froze it. My dad was furious, and the keys were in the center of the ice because it had been held afloat slightly by the cork.
Anyways, I think it's a bit extreme, but, I don't see why a person shouldn't just cut their credit card if they're having that much problems with spending.
13If someone TRULY had a credit card issue I suspect they would take that bucket of ice in the car with them until it melted and if they were truly in a rush, take an ice pick to that bad boy.
14When I first heard about this, it wasn't to make sure you didn't spend at all, but to make sure you didn't make an impulse buy (which we all think about now and then).
15I have never done this, but it sounds like a good idea for those with bad impluse control and not a lot of money. However, I have been known to accidentally leave my card at home, then find something I love out, then change my mind before I got back to the store with the card. So... maybe I should just leave my card at home everyday!
16What this is crazy if you have not control over your spending them maybe you shouldn't have a cc at all. Save yourself all that trouble.
