When the statistic was established that half of hiring managers have caught lies on applicants' résumés, it was only a matter of time before these witnesses dished about the worst of the worst.
Some things are just too outrageous not to be shared and most of these lies fall into that category; here are ten tall tales hiring managers came across in their searches for quality candidates.
- Candidate claimed to be a member of the Kennedy family.
- Applicant invented a school that did not exist.
- Job seeker submitted a résumé with someone else's photo inserted into the document.
- Candidate claimed to be a member of Mensa.
- Applicant claimed to have worked for the hiring manager before, but never had.
See five more unbelievable bold lies when you read more.
- Job seeker claimed to be the CEO of a company when he was an hourly employee.
- Candidate listed military experience dating back to before he was born.
- Job seeker included samples of work, which were actually those of the interviewer.
- Applicant claimed to be Hispanic when he was 100 percent Caucasian.
- Candidate claimed to have been a professional baseball player.

wow people actually think the interviewer will fall for this b.s.?

dumba$$e$!
2i think that some of those are kind of funny - but it's the truth. a lot of people do lie on their resume in the hopes that it'll help. i know people that have put fake companies on their resume and said that they've worked there or were part of a start up and all that. i don't know what the point is really since there are so many ways these days to check on that. oh well...at least it's not my job to check the facts on people that are interviewed.
3#8 is probably my favorite. Imagine if you were the interviewer.
4Say what!?!?!?!
K, I don't even lie about little things on mine!
5Schmucks!
6Do people really do that?? Have they ever heard of Google??
7Its surprising how much this happens, like on the Apprentice *UK* the winner lied on his CV about going to college, he dropped out after 4 months. AND they hired him!! Talk about setting a poor example.
Although I do understand why they do it, it shouldnt be about qualifications or years experience or big name companies, it should be whether or not you can do the job, do it well and be a loyal, valuable employee.
8I agree, number 8 is the best! Too funny that people think they can get away with this stuff!
9I wonder #8 qualifies as identity theft.
10What I think is worse is when an interviewee comes in and has everything rehersed perfectly, and I'm convinced this is the guy for me. Then his true colors come out a week later.
116 and 8 are pure facepalm.
#9, however... what, did they ask, "are you 100% white?" did s/he claim to be hispanic and then recant? how do they even approach that in an interview (and is it legal)? i just wonder, because complexions can be misleading (my fiance's is, for one).
12#9 kind of cracks me up because one of my old sales reps from a previous job was from Mexico City and was pale, with blond hair, and blue eyes. I never would have thought of him as being latin if I saw him on the street.
13A friend with a horrible gpa (2.2) got into Princeton on a scholarship for minorities after writing in his admissions essay about his childhood in South Africa...which was true, except he was a blonde, blue eyed Afrikaaner of 100% dutch descent. It just goes to show...
14Lol, these are funny.
kadams11 ---you friend was a minority where he was from, right?
15#4 could be a legitimate claim.
16#4 could be a legitimate claim.
