US News informs us there's a cookie baking technique out there that may save the baker some dough. As long as the temperature is at least 95 degrees outside the car, cookies will bake on your car's dashboard in two and half hours.

They say this is one time your car can actually save you money: You save on utilities by avoiding the oven and the counteractive air-conditioning. What do you think of this alternative baking and saving idea?

that's so stupid -- and only applicable to people that live pretty far south. I don't think it even gets to 95 above here.
1Who wants to wait 2.5 hours for a cookie to bake. I agree totally stupid.
2I'd rather eat cookie dough. Also, I don't have a car, so I couldn't do this even if I wanted to.
3ooo, javsmav. mmmmmmm cooooookie dough...
4I live in CA so I could prop those suckers on my bashboard in the morning while my car is parked at work and they would be ready by lunch time. lol
5A part of me thinks, is this really sanitary? The other side say, let's do it! Lol. The car would smell like cookies!
6Um, am I the only person who has done this?? Not to save on money, but just a fun thing to do as a little kid in the summer?? It was just a fun science experiment on a hot day -- is it REALLY hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk or bake cookies in the car? (It was.) And it DID make the car smell like cookies for a couple days!
7Yaya I was thinking the same thing. It is definitely hot enough in the deep south to do this
8All I can think of are sick jokes about leaving the kids and the dog in the car to make sure the cookies don't burn.
9its gonna over 95 for the next few days here...maybe i ought to give a shot!!
it
would make the car smell good! and all this talk about cookies is making me hungry
10eewwww. i find that really insanitary. why don't people just invest in more efficient ovens that keep the heat in the oven instead of heating the room.
I'll just pass with not eating cookies.
11I'm not that damn broke!
12I read a blog about this, I think it sounds like a great idea! Who doesn't want their car smelling like cookies??? How is it unsanitary?? It's not like your smearing your cookies on the dash, you put them on a cookie sheet!
13screw cookies, I wants me some cinnamon buns.
14Awesome, it would just be a fun experiment to do. I live in Las Vegas and get 100+ F here. As for the 'unsanitary' quote, I don't see this as an unsanitary activity if the cookies are on a metal sheet in dry heat. Plus, even if there would be some germs floating around, everyone could afford to get some germs internally and develop a little more immunity to a variety of allergens.
15Do people really want to eat cookies when it's so hot? The only treats I crave in the summer are COLD and fruity things: ice cream, fro-yo, sorbet, smoothies, chilled grapes, etc.
16hahah...this is silly...and if I get board enough to try this...them my car will end up smelling like cookies for weeks and that wont help me on my diet...lol
17hmm - i do'nt know if i buy into that - but ok. it's like the frying an egg on the pavement comment. i dont know if you can really do that either although there have been many studies on it. i think that you would have to be really desperate to go to those lengths and bake a cookie in your car - no?
18I don't think I would try this in Southern California...someone might smash your window and steal the cookies. Just MHO.
19I don't understand why this is unsanitary...you're putting the dough on a cookie sheet and setting the cookie sheet on the dash. Am I just missing something here?
I never did this because we're poor or anything. In fact, we have an oven that does keep the heat in pretty well. But we did it because hell, it's fun! And I think around my neighborhood, no one would break in just to steal cookies.
20When I was a kid, roasting a chicken (tightly wrapped in foil, of course) on the manifold of your car was the big thing. You know, you plop the chicken under the hood (or wherever the manifold is) at the start of a road trip and you have yummy roast chicken when you reach your destination. I have also heard of people boiling eggs in the dishwasher.
21I think its a great idea, there was an article in our paper the other day about it!
I would totally do this while at work. No problem!
22I'm with wadewifey! If you have a moderately efficient oven, how expensive is it REALLY?
23Oh my gosh. I remember when the Phoenix news used to do stories on this every summer! I just couldn't do it. And I'm with chocolatine, do people really crave warm treats in the summertime?
24pretty interesting but who would eat it? it's so unsanitary! it's like someone eating an egg off the side walk if the day was hot enough.
yuck...
25"All I can think of are sick jokes about leaving the kids and the dog in the car to make sure the cookies don't burn."
So awful -- and so true.
26i absolutely can't stand smelling like food, so this would be a no for me.
27I don't think of this as unsanitary however I do think it has the potential to make a mess of your car and who wants that?
