Reef Stash Sandals ($46) are named after what they're made for: stashing stuff. Hidden in the heel is a pull-out storage area where you can slide your essentials inside, like your cash, house or hotel key, and ID while be-bopping at the beach. Appearance of the flip-flops aside, what do you think of the idea; is it brilliant or baffling?

Brilliant. But those sandals are FUG and I have lost quite a few pairs of flip-flops while on vacation. I have yet to lose my purse so putting that important stuff in my purse would be safer for me.
They should make a pair of cute espadrilles like that.
Brilliant but they don't look comforable at all.
*comfortable.
Its cool. . . Its not really a new concept though, my "skater" shoes had stash pockets in the tongue and under the sole I think. Shopaholics right, those are so hideous. They look like boy shoes.
Love it!
This would be perfect when going to a water park! But you'd just have to make sure no one steals your flippies.
yah, i agree that they're ugly, but it's a good idea!
I could never minimize my purse down to a few contents to stuff in my shoes.
Now if they could make a pair that has one for stashing things and one for a flask!! Oh the indiscretions!
LOL ! I don't know what to say...
Reef did make one that stashed a flask. In fact, I didn't pay attention and assumed i was voting on that one, so I voted "baffling."
this would have been nice when i was 12 and didn't have pockets or carry purses.
If it wasn't for the way they looked, this would be brilliant! I hate carrying a purse around.
They are guys flip flops. I just bought them for my guy. They are VERY comfortable, but really I think it's stupid to add the "stash" no one would use that! His last pair was the one with the flask, and before those he had the one with the bottle opener on the bottom, SO GROSS! He likes them b/c they are all black and super comfy, but it's crazy the stuff they add to them. Seriously who would open a bottle with their shoe, or worse drink from it?
I have the pair with the bottle opener on the bottom. Which has actually come in handy at beach parties in Mexico.
I love Reef's flip flops. Sure, they look like guys' shoes, but they're more comfortable than the tiny thin womens' ones and I'm usually
stomping around in the sand or shopping in small Mexican towns when I'm wearing them anyway.
I'm not too sure about this one. . . with my luck I would put my stuff in there and forget that I did.
I have a pair of platforms where the heel cap comes off and I could theoretically put something in there, but I'd be afraid that it makes annoying clanky noises or something when i was walking, or that it would fall open and i'd lose my stuff.
awesome, best idea ever. I might get a pair for my dad
I would wear them if they came in pink. I remember going out when I was young drinking on the beach and id have my phone in one hand and bottle in the other but no where for a key!
Keds came out with these YEARS ago - I had a pair and they were great for a walk on the beach - put my $$ and keys in and I'm home free!
People Loved them!
Don't know how Reef is getting away with copying Keds.
i'm kind of undecided on this one. i think that it's a GREAt idea when you don't want to have to carry a bag for just a couple items when you go out - but living in NYC - i just have a fear that they are going to open up while i'm walking since i walk everywhere and then i'll lose something really important.
I've just had a thought: wouldn't it be sort of awkward to go to pay for something, and have to bend down and take your shoe off to get the money out?
Reefs are incredibly comfortable. I've seen the one with the bottle cap opener on the bottom; it was very useful!
I think it's a great idea. I hate when I'm in a crowded place on vacation or something and I have to worry about someone grabbing my purse. I have their bottle opener flip-flops, which seem so random, but they've come in handy a lot.
good idea, but i guess that you would only use the stash area in an emergency since as soon as someone sees you open it, your whole cover is blown.
Great idea but man are they ugly!
I agree. Great idea but those are ugly. They need to make many more styles unlike those above.
i have got to agree with those that say it's a good idea, but they're kind of ugly.
They are ugly, but a great idea. It's a huge risk to leave a purse or a bag with stuff at the beach, things get stolen so easily! So, it would be better to lock your purse in the trunk of your car and just leave the key in your shoe.
I think it's great... I was in vegas down at the pool and needed somewhere to put my room key, ID, and such and it's much better than leaving a purse unattended while poolside.
You could put your weed in there!
sounds good in theory but when the little pocket opens when youre walking on the beach and you dnt notice until your keys are buried in the sand, they wont sound so great.
I'm with juicylove, it's just too risky for me!
Is it just me or does the little drawer look like it could open up pretty easy? I would think there is a great risk of that and then you loose your stuff along with ruining your reputation for wearing such an ugly shoe.
Great Idea, but I know that ArchPort originally invented this slide-out-compartment idea - much more space than the small pockets is the upper of kangaroos and other athletic shoe. But why does a large company steal an idea!! WOW, shameless, especially when you consider Reef was started by and built by indpedententrepreneurs....unless perhaps they are licensing with the patent owner.
