Comparison shopping is the name of the game when it comes to buying plane tickets, but I must say I'm delighted when JetBlue or Virgin America turn up on top of my search results. And if the flight is on the long side or a red-eye, I may be willing to pay a little extra for tickets on my favorite carriers. Do you prefer any particular airline to the others?

I loooove Airtran! I only fly with them!
1I have really been trying to fly with Southwest, it's hard sometimes.
I have a bus trip coming up and I will have to use AirTran - I only flew with them once and that was 4 years ago --not a good experience.
2Southwest - they don't charge all thos crazy fees, and their pre-flight safety presentation if full of jokes (it actually prompts me to pay attention, and reduces the overall pre-takeoff anxiety).
3Midwest!
The seats are comfy! Free drinks, fresh baked cookies and preztels! The staff is fairly nice the flight is always comfortable.
4Delta Delta Delta - Hands down!
5In Chicago Ohare is dominated by United and AA. I prefer United because I have status on that airline carrier. It helps getting through security quicker.
6southwest! i live in las vegas, i am going to college in chicago, and i visit my boyfriend in cleveland; southwest is everything i need and generally cheaper. and their credit card/earning rapid rewards - life is sweet.
7I used to fly American Airlines until I went to California from NYC. It was a fully booked flight and the flight attendants did not stock enough food for the flight. They ran out of sandwiches by the 14th aisle. I was in the 30th aisle. By the time I got to San Diego I was cranky as hell.
Jetblue by far is my airline of choice. I started flying JetBlue about 5 years ago and it's been a good experience ever since.
I fly Airtran into Newport News, Virginia so far it's been a good experience with them.
8Martini Rossi, I flew Midwest once, about 10 years ago, to Nebraska. Hands down, best flight ever! The food was good and the warm cookies, omg! Too bad I never fly to the midwest, lol.
9Warm cookies?! Sign me up
10I am platinum on American Airlines so I am a little biased, but they have always been great to me.
11I really like Northwest. I've never had any delays or any problems when flying with them.
To fly to Europe, British Airways is my favorite.
Unfortunately, most of the time I fly US Airways, because I live in Philly and they're based here so they are always the cheapest and most likely to be direct. I hate US Airways. They never, ever, EVER are on time.
12Southwest.
13Within the US, American ... I guess. I hate Northwest with a passion. To and from the UK where I currently live, British or Virgin. And to Asia, Singapore or Japan Airlines.
14I have a soft spot for United. I wouldn't pay more to fly them, but I'm happy when a flight with them is the best deal. They just seem more put together than US Air, which is the other perennial choice.
Also, I grew up near their hub in Chicago, and they advertised a lot on the local TV stations; I loved their commercials with Rhapsody in Blue. (When did airlines stop advertising? You never see an airline ad any more? Fly the Friendly Skies, Something Special in the Air, We Love to Fly and It Shows ... all gone!)
I miss AirTran; they used to fly out of my local airport to Midway, which is easier for my parents than O'Hare. Roundtrip for $200, every time; and I never had any problems with them. Though I wasn't a fan of having to fly south to Atlanta when I was going north in the long run.
15I love Delta too. The little in-seat touch screens were FABULOUS the last time I flew. I get to pick which channel I want to watch and track where the plane is on the screen. It's was awesome!
16jet blue makes me feel safest for some reason...i'm not really the calmest flyer, unfortunately...and i am actually flyng us airways tonight for the first time and i'm flipping out - it's a 52-person plane and the weather here is awful right now!
17I'm a frequent flyer from Bay Area, CA to Hawaii so I love Hawaiian Airlines. They have great food, macadamia nuts and POG (passion orange guava) on every flight
! Plus they're reliable and with all my frequent flyer miles, I can get tickets often for
free.
Otherwise I fly Southwest but they are hardly ever on time which makes things stressful.
18I like AirTran, mostly because their prices are cheap and I like the XM radio in the armrests. I usually only fly up and down the East Coast, though (NYC to Atlanta), so I don't have to worry too much about legroom and comfort like I would on a longer flight.
19Usually, though, things like catering and flight delays aren't actually the airline's fault, it's either the airport or another company. But the airlines get blamed because they're the big name brand that the person bought the ticket from.
I live in Chicago so I think the best airline is United since they have a TON of flights.
It doesn't hurt that I have status though.
20Any airline that is not American owned is my preferred, with the exception of Jet Blue. If flying domestically, I always want Virgin America or Jet Blue because they have so much more leg room and are just nicer flights.
21They all pretty much suck these days.
22It depends on where I am going. I love British or Virgin for overseas. Domestic I don't mond Alaska or American. I hate USAirways it is turly awful
FYI Craft services stock the airplanes not the flight attendants so when they run out of food or drink it is not their fault.
23I'm like cubadog, it depends on where I'm going. If I'm heading down to the USVI, I'll take United or American. If I'm headed anywhere in the main 48, I'll try to fly Air Tran.
24i do have a preferred airline - i like to fly continental when i'm flying domestic - and everytime i've gone to london - i've flown Virgin which has always been so comfortable. the good thing is that they are co-share partners so i get points on both!
25I like Jet Blue or VA, but I'm stuck with 45k miles from American (from when I lived in Chicago). Some good they're doing me now that I don't live in a hub city anymore. Sigh.
26US: Continental
Europe: KLM
The best flight I had from the USA to the UK was by far on Continental, with a nice plane, a nice seat, nice people, nice seats..nice.
Given a choice, I am a KLM girl though. Finnair is okay but soo damn expensive even by today's standards.
27I don't really care that much. I travel frequently enough that anything under 15 hours doesn't qualify as a "really long flight" so I'll take anything that's cheap!
I have had really good experiences on British Airways, KLM and Lufthansa, and I LOVE Qantas.
28Southwest or JetBlue are always great in my book.
29Southwest, please.
30TWA was and will always be my preferred airline. St. Louis was their hub, so almost every flight we took until they went under was on TWA. Also, I find it very hard to avoid peanuts on airlines (not quite as much now as then because they have been cutting back on things like that), but TWA served AB pretzels (which also no longer exist) for as far back as I can remember.
31SwissAir is also pretty cool because they serve chocolate.
I guess I'd pick Frontier... they're based in Denver, so there's always a flight somewhere and they have that little airplane tracker on the back of the seat too. Plus, they're nice and it's fairly comfortable.
I've also really enjoyed my flights on Alaska - the pilots were really good. No bumpy landings, no mountain-feeling takeoffs, just really smooth and lovely. The pilot even told us what the weather was like, why there was a little turbulence... it felt good to be informed.
32us continental preferably.
33southwest when i'm scrimping on a trip.
Even with the price cuts, I still support Delta
34Southwest. All the random people I have flown with on Southwest have been super down-to-earth, and I feel less pressured to act like I have a stick up my rear. They're been profitable year after year since the 80s (may be earlier), yes, even during 2001, and the past year when every other airline was losing their bottom. Plus no added fees for stuff. (disclosure: As of 8/7/08, I do not own LUV, but I do actively trade it.)
If I go where Southwest doesn't, I prefer United.
35I'm in love with Frontier too silver penny!! Dont really know why tho. I think I like the big warm pretzels and the airplane tracker, too
36Continental almost always. except to London which i prefer Virgin. though Continental partners with Virgin for some flights so last time i flew there i got a Virgin flight and earned continental frequent flier miles... best of both worlds! i have a continental CC too so i earn miles that way. i've been able to get 2 practically free flights by using my frequent flier miles (one domestic and one to mexico) so i can't really complain!
37I love swissair. They are great!
38WestJet!
39Continental! Super clean!
40I love Continental. I have also flown Jet Blue and AirTran a couple times and really liked them. To the UK I like British Airways. I like that there's free booze. I book the red eye, drink some wine, and pass out.
41JetBlue, Alaska or Virgin America for continental US travel. I like British Airways or United for overseas flights.
42American, domestic and international.
43I'm a huge fan of AirFrance and British Airways -- free alcohol on both! They also seem very professional. The flight attendants are always multi-lingual, everything is clean, the seats are comfortable, etc. And I recently got a round trip flight from Paris to Barcelona for $104 on AirFrance, which I think is the cheapest flight I've ever taken.
44Definately Singapore Airlines for International flights and Qantas or Virgin Blue for Domestic.
45You just can't go past Singapore's built in game system, I LOVE Super Mario!
We don't really have much choice in Australia!
I wish I had a favorite airline. Even flying out of LAX doesn't afford that many options if you want to fly direct - so I usually go with the best possible option (good service, rates, flight times) and wish for the best. Recently I came across a customer service blog that highlights the bad and good and has entries about airlines and airline cards - I love information and ate it up at http://thebusinessofno.blogspot.com/
