Yesterday's news that the US's Gross Domestic Product only grew 1.9 percent despite the recent flood of rebate checks is a bit surprising. The rebate checks were technically a one-time tax cut that you don't have to pay back and are considered an advance on the taxes you'll owe in 2008, but the government hoped consumers would use the "extra" dough and boost the economy by buying things.

I paid down debt - does that count as spending?
I paid down debt

I paid my credit card bill with it, so technically I spent it before I even had the
rebate check
I paid debt with it so I really didn't add anything to the economy.
I paid debt with it so I really didn't add anything to the economy.
We started a savings account with it ... it'll bolster our house downpayment in 3-6 months.
I Spent it all. I got a grill, picnic table and a dishwasher! I think hubby spent his half on a guitar.
$100 went in my checking account, and the other $500 was placed in our CD at the bank.
Mine's in short-to-medium-term savings, waiting to be used for a vacation or something equally worthy.
I didn't get a rebate cheque because I'm Canadian, but I voted "Other" to see what everyone else said... If I had gotten one, it would have gone towards debt.
Technically, I spent it all years before I got it. I used it to pay off our credit card.
Paid credit card bill.
Bought myself a trip to Hawaii to go see our friends' get married and used the other half for miscellaneous items such as bills, etc.
Went to my savings account but eventually will get used either for our wedding or for a vacation (we are going to Hawaii in a week yay!).
It's in a savings account right now, waiting to be used for our big move at the end of August. If all of it doesn't get eaten up by moving costs and the security deposit (damn you, Santa Barbara apartments! *shakes angry fist*), THEN we'll spend the rest on stuff like a new desk, microwave, and/or refrigerator.
I used mine to pay my rent. So that I can stimulate a roof over my head for one more month.
I didn't get one because the government decided that I make too much money. Which is a crock of crap. If I did receive one, I would have spent it on oodles of goodies, thus stimulation the economy. They shouldn't have limited it.
I deposited mine in my savings acct but I used a big chunk of my savings to pay off a credit card. So, I guess it went to pay debt!
It went completely to bills.
Yep, we bought furniture.
i didn't 'spend' it persay - i used it to pay off some of my bills since that's the key thing for me right now. i want to have $0 debt ASAP
I didn't get one either. I didn't qualify
I would have gone shopping.
i paid off my credit card balance--in full!
Went to savings.
I spent it all, and it was at Louis Vuitton same as the picture...too funny.
We put ours toward our principle on our mortgage so we can pay it off faster.
$600 is nothing these days...have you ever kept track of how much your state and the federal government takes out for taxes? my personal estimate is $1600/mo. Thats almost 20 grand per year!!! That could be a down payment on a house!! Talk about "stimulate" the economy!!!
sadly wrong country
so did not get it
dang it
I put it in a savings acct
I paid down some bills.
I used it to go towards my new car.
"Yesterday's news that the US's Gross Domestic Product only grew 1.9 percent despite the recent flood of rebate checks is a bit surprising." Really? Didn't surprise me at all. I think I assumed that the majority of people would put this money towards bills or debt.
i paid for school
i paid for school
I brought an Ipod and put the remaining in savings.
I bought a wakeboard for myself, and 4 new tires for my car.
I used $400 to pay for hotel and gas that we had spent the weekend before and the other $800 went into savings!
